I like some of the post but I am telling you, wait until the season starts because Marist has not seen kids like this before and these kids are not going to break like others. There not going to cry, there going to go out and take it to the other team because thats NYC basketball. The trash talking has already started, tell me one Freshman that came in to Marist and trash talk before he even hit the court. That right there should tell you something. (hard nose kids with HEART).
Just be ready guys and if not than BYe BYe Chuck Martin
Who has that betting pool on wins next year I want to put in a $100 on 10 and over wins

Pearl, that is an awesome job. We are lucky to have your insights and analysis on this board. Curry from all descriptions is going to be an immediate leader type with such a young team. Another reason why I think it is imperative to get at least 1 more big is these young guys are going to naturally struggle at times defensively. Morton because of his size, Thomas because of his lack of bulk, and Lewis just because he is young. I do think Curry's size will enable him to be competitive defensively, but he will probably have a harder time with quicker guards. So, it is imperative to have some guys up front who can block shots when the other guys are beat off the dribble, etc. Or at least get in the way, so Morton can come down low at swat at the ball, disrupt the guys that way:). Kemp is already a good rebounder and plays all out. They need 1 or 2 guys to team up with him or the interior is going to be a sieve.

igotyouback, 2 years ago during the red-white scrimmaged, I specifically mentioned how pumped up the new Marist recruits seemed (specifically Watson and Drummond), almost to the point of arrogance. They were just running down the court, dunking, not playing any D and just acting like they were the Sh.. Trash talking means nothing, and actually looks stupid if they don't back it up on the court. And they are going to have that confidence sapped if they are forced to play out of position like Martins former recruiting class we all loved had too. I just hope this isn't deja vu.

I think these kids have the goods. They do need another 6'7 or 6'8 guy though. Hopefully, they land Fall, Barnett, or Ortiz. Better yet 2 out of three. I saw the clips. These guys are worlds better than the last youngsters.. And they all played against good competition night in night out. If Anell builds off of the Siena game, look out. Just need one more difference maker inside. Just one.

I've been on the "field" HS & college athletes as an official for over 25 years. I've never seen trash talking win a thing. Trash talking from those who can back it up can work for a while but if you are trash talking and cannot back it up you are a loser and will bring the rest of the team and program down. Not a fan of trash talking at all.
Yes we need more big guys! Kemp is fine but if the back ups are Prinsloo & Carter (playing out of position again) will not get it done.

Its not about the trash talking it about the type of kids that are coming to Marist next season you guys has never seen these type of player. Look all I or anyone can do is wait to see what happens on the court. I for one believe that we are going to hurt a lot of teams this year and that without another big man. IMO
Also I am trash talking I want to see that pool for next years that every one was talking about because I can use the gas money LOL and I see the 10 plus wins in MACC play.
Come on Yankee get that pool going.

We a NYC player, Dorvell Carter. And this coach did not realize how good he was until he HAD to play him. Dorvell is the perfect example of a NYC player. He works hard, can go up against bigger players, does the little things, hustles and continues to work on his game. Usually we've seen NYC guys playing for our opponents. I am extremely excited about having this crop of recruits. Especially like that they know each other and have already played with each other. Hope they let their play do the talking.

Igotyou cannot agree with you more dont think these guys realize that the coaching staff have recruited winners. What I mean is student athletes who are sharp kids and hate to lose. Heck lewis and morton was a combined 58-4 this past season thats ridicolous add in tj and now you are talking about several state champions, these kids get what the other kids didnt they are all good students. The other kids sound like a mess failing school, failing on the court being a winner starts with your attitude. No way you win only 10 games you have several recruits who can play big east ball add in the schedule next year not being as hard as this year. This for sure is the turning point of marist mens bball. These kids combined with what the team already has should be exciting.

Pearl, I love your insight and knowledge of these players. recently you posted a scouting report on the 4 recruits. Now you are telling us that as freshmen these guys are going to make a huge difference and turn the program around. They come from winning programs and they know how to win and will not accept losing (My words, interpreted from you posts). Sam Prescott led his team to a championship a couple years ago. They are all coming from tremendously successful programs to a tremendously UNsuccessful program. Marist has not won a MACC championship in I don't know how many years. We want this team and these recruits to turn the page and to be hugely successful. However I will quote your scouting review and question how HS boys will immediately win against college men. You said
"Isaiah Morton ... will be overmatched alot on the d-1 level. Shot selection can also be a problem as he has to learn when to look for his shot as opposed to being a playmaker.
Chavaugn Lewis ... struggled against a stronger but much older d-1 player this past weekend, must continue to improve accuracy on shot and continue to be more of a playmaker for others in addition to scoring himself."
We watched young boys play against the men in the MAAC the last two year and they got their collective asses kicked. These incoming boys will have similar thing happen to them the first year or so. But I totally agree that they are the future and have the potential to contend in the MAAC when they are MAAC Men. But please don't insult us by saying that Marist has now turned the corner and will be in the mix next year. We've heard that before and have been watching the same show for a while. I want everything to be perfect for Marist to be in the mix and as I said believe they will be in the future but next year because these kids come from Winning programs? They are coming from a winning program to a LOSING program.
PS I do not evaluate talent as do you but I think the Big East statement is reaching a bit too far. A NYC kid would give up playing at Madison Square Garden for the McCann Center?
LET'S GO RED FOXES!!!

No argument that they are/were winners.

We describe NYC kids as if they are a different breed of human:). I understand it is a tough game in the city, but so are leagues in Philly, so are leagues in Jersey. I like the NYC pipeline for what it is. It is a pipeline of players that should be interested in getting away from home, but yet still are close enough to take the train if they want back on the weekend. I don't see it as a different breed of player persay.
