When you are looking for a team to maybe go to you ask yourself what will be my role on this team and does this team have a chance of winning? Sadly the answer for our team is not sure at best. I look at the other MAAC teams like Fairfield, Niagara, Manhattan and many others that are in a much better position than us and you have to ask - who is gonna want to come here? Its his last year. And then what?

Coaches, even on the level of Giorgis, make mistakes. Few really bad misses in this group talent wise and aoparently attitude wise. However, Giorgis has such an incredible resume of success that I trust he and his choice of successor will right this quickly. I am looking forward to seeing these scholarships get filled and have hope the returners are going to be motivated to not want this to happen again. Lets go marist.

With TK leaving, does this mean Shazer and Fisher are next to go?

I would assume so. But fisher will not be able to leave until next year unless she wants to sit out a year. But with all of her friends gone I suspect she will go leaving us with only Piddock at this point.

She already transferred once. The only sit free year left would be her COViD year as a grad transfer. I’m hoping that both Shazer and Fisher stay. They are a dynamic duo on the court.

If Fisher transfers right now then she will have to sit for a year. If she leaves and sits for a year then she can play wherever she wants. These 2 looked to be the least happy so I wont be surprised.

At some point I hope a kid actually cares about being at a college, developing relationships, etc.If Fisher leaves again, I woukd be surprised because it would be a really big mark on what college is supposed to be about

How is a player recruited? Who does the analysis and makes the recommendation to offer them a scholarship? Understood Coach has the final say but someone has to bring forward recommendations. It would appear to be a issue there since there are so many entering the portal- some sort of breakdown in the initial analysis. Who does this reflect on?

Coach has always said he recruits the person first then the player. - and yeah he missed with this Soph class.
Fisher will not leave even if Zaria leaves (which I do think will happen)
That class came in as Freshman all thinking they should be starting every game - they complained about PT almost immediately. (Less Zaria and Wiemer). They complained about how coach, coached.
Coach has been doing this for 40 years and has had great success doing it his way. I actually had lunch recently with a past women’s player and even she said that she doesn’t understand the mentality of todays players. They have been taught not to let a coach yell at you, you get yours or you transfer to some place where you will.
The girls that are leaving, didn’t buy into coach’s motion, didn’t listen to coach, they formed clicks within the team, ostracized players. Talked back on court, didn’t run motion, laughed at losing (we saw this live or on tv)
Do we lose a lot of points - heck yeah, but I still believe losing those players is a great thing (maybe not in the win/loss column) but for the program.
We need kids who want to be here, who will embrace what staff is trying to do, and with high basketball IQs, we want kids who genuinely like to be around each other, who have each others backs, who look at the team as a whole vs I need to get mine.
I think IF Zaria leaves it might make Fisher better - you can see that Zaria was Fisher’s first option almost every time down court - with her eyes looking at entire court and all player she could be dynamic.
The number one thing we need is a post player or two, need to improve rebounds and 2nd chance points in the paint. Wax production easily replaced, Ellison can be replaced with healthy Fisher, TK & Zaria tougher to replace.
There are going to be grad players who want minutes and there are plenty to be had, they staff will get one or two transfers.
It’s a lot easier to sell players leaving in todays world - heck last year there was 1200 DI transfers on women’s side (avg about 3 per team)

We can question what happened when offering this class scholarships - but the staff’s recruiting philosophy isn’t something that needs to be fixed, they have succeeded too long doing it their way.
Love the Cunningham and Boylan class, and I love this incoming class (if either of those classes turn out to be busts then I’d say revisit)

Good points nomar33..I just wonder if Coaches style is still effective with today's players ala Tom Coughlin of the Giants. Oh, and Yeah, there is no doubt an entitled attitude coming from the players. Thanks for the reply!

Also it would not surprise me if they offer Krick a 5th year - need guard who knows system and she was the most consistent down the stretch

As far as how it looks to recruits, I don't think it's too bad. The worst season in 20 years and there were still 1,200+ fans in the seats. Manhattan had a strong year and gets a few hundred on a good day.
I'm sure there's grad transfers who want to win now, and Giorgis, if he wants, should be able to sell the urgency given it's his last season.
Hard to believe a year ago the team was prepping for Louisville...now only four players left from that squad.

Also it would not surprise me if they offer Krick a 5th year - need guard who knows system and she was the most consistent down the stretch I know we want the younger players to have time but I don't think it would hurt to bring back Krick. She's the type of leader you want on the court and actually runs the motion. She's the type of player that will work with the younger players to learn. Plus it reduces the stress of trying to find 4+ transfers.
