I began reading this forum several months ago to stay informed concerning the marist program with incoming recruits and future recruits interested in marist. I have followed the forum to get a feel for the program. I can sympathize with all for your frustration concerning the lack of success, however out of all the places I have taken my kids the summer of 2010 to visit various colleges when coming to marist I was pretty surprised concerning the lack of talent. We visited many places and marist had the least talent out of them all because of the inexperience of new recruits. I have coached over 1,000 aau games not comparing it to the college level but its hard to win when you dont have kids who play hard. As a coach I know what it feels like to bust your behind and your kids play with no heart. My cousin who will retire in nyc hall of fame, as a first time hs coach stunk his first 3yrs not implying CM stinks but my cousin was learning on the job his school stuck with him and they have won an unprecedented 7 championships and 3state chips. But they had great players. It takes time to win. With so many unproven players and no true star player yet its hard to win. You guys have no idea how much of a buzz the program has now because of incoming recruits, YOU GUYS MUST STOP the negativity future recruits from the class2011-14 are reading your forum and you are discouraging many of them. Trust when I tell you Marist is headed back to the glory days!!! By the way I just hope jgood is not a former player be a man if so and talk to the coach face to face you are damaging the credibility of your school you guys keep going eventually you will chase away potential recruits. Thanks for listening sorry for the long post.

Pearl777,
Welcome aboard. Let me start by saying that what may sound like negativity to some is simply a statement of facts to others. I agree with your assessment of the lack of talent and no heart on the team. As a coach, who do you hold responsible for this?

1 win last year overall and 4 wins this year. This board is not gonna be all roses with that record. Welcome aboard, and hope you stay and give your viewpoint. But if you don't see some issues with the current results, then you are just supporting one person in this whole issue, the coach. They are hitting unprecedented lows with this group. AND, I hope the kids who committed to Marist committed for the college experience as well. They are getting a great education at a top up and coming school. If that isn't enough, well then sayonara and others will be out their that care more than just who is the head coach. He deserves scrutiny, he is getting it. Its great if you want to support him, but stick around and do so instead of making a post that honestly talks down to fans who have supported this team for multiple years.

There you go with the negative / finger pointing crap again .. (Shake my head) .. as been stated before, Marist fans should take some blame for the lack of success .. running strong/potential recruits away ... What kid wanna play under negative circumstances / fan base. No space to breath/develop because of complaining fans.
Thanks You Peral777 ..
Ppl dont realize how badly many current HS players want to play with Morton ... he's like a legend in the tri-state area (in HS and street ball)...

What should not happen, and that is rapidly developing ,is keeping a coach who has 5 wins in 2 years total to get one kid to stay. If that kid commits to Marist, he should commit for more than playing for a head coach. Everyone here wants Morton, we know how good he can be by his video. He seems to have the personality to be a leader and someone who can bring the crowds back. WE ALL WANT SUCCESS. We would support Martin to come back if he just shows us something. They can't keep losing by ridiculous amounts petagay. Don't you think some negativity/criticism is warranted at this time?

I was pretty surprised concerning the lack of talent. We visited many places and marist had the least talent. How will this change in 9 months? ? 1 kid will make all these kids 15 points better a game? And that is hoping that all the other teams out there dont get better. I have just seen absolutly nothing that gives me hope - within this system and coaching

Yes! .. Construtive criticism is warranted .. but not insults and disrespect towards the man (coach Martin) and his players.
Everyone want to preach "Marist is a classy, well renowned, high scale institution" and it is .. Well the fan base should follow suit!

Thats a fair statement and I have said I will try to tone down any nasty rhetoric. I am sure you will point out any transgressions on my part:). Petagay, I think you should start a thread or that dewd guy on the positives you are seeing right now. We need some convincing, I know I do. I mean that seriously, things about the players, coaches, future players such as Morton, etc.

and there goes the KING of negativity himself ... Mr. know it all.
Nomar, how about I just give you that $1000 you want, if you stop running away quality / potential recruits.
WE STILL HAVE A SCHOLARSHIP TO GIVE FOR NEXT SEASON ....

That would be a sign of poor decision making, no?

I'm with you Pearl 777. I'm one of the positive guys. I'm disappointed. However, some of the attacks on this board were more than just an opinion. There was a nastiness. The board has only gotten this way the last couple of months. I do think Isaiah will be a difference maker. The St Peters announcers were saying that Marist had some nice pieces but that they needed one or two difference makers. Morton is the first difference maker.
I'm with Petagay. Constructive criticism is one thing. This turned into the "Tea Party". There were a lot of allegations about the coach's behavior. He indicated in the POJO today that he has always had the support of "management." So some of these accusations are obviously bs. Welcome aboard. There are a lot of rational hoop fans on here.

Yankee,
I think kids do make decisions based on things you wouldn't believe. If it was about academics and the campus, Marist would never take a back seat. I think Morton is the first difference maker for CM. If he can get one on the front line to go with Kemp, he's got what he needs to build. I really do think Morton is light yrs better than RJ and Price. I like Price. This kid is much more explosive.

My younger brother is 17 years old, plays football (DT).. he's 6'1 270 pounds ... he originally thought about playing fball @ MArist ... I bring him to both fball and bball games .. he's aware of whats going on here and has no interest now. Seriously .. (I love what Marist provides so im still gonna convince him to reconsider) But point blank ... no one whats to be in a negative environment.

If he wants to come to Marist, he will come no matter who the head coach is. However, keeping Lee may be a way to help in both cases. I really like the idea of Lee being given a shot. keeps some of the continuity many of you want and hopefully turns around the mindset of a team that has won 5 games under the current head coach in 2 years.
