Most of Marist's 21 non-basketball sports will compete from March through May in MAAC-only regular seasons, sans football as you know. Indoor track and field was cancelled and the swimming/diving championships were cancelled, although there may be a virtual meet later in the spring where they all swim separately and the times are uploaded to online meet-scoring software. Don't know if that counts as a MAAC championship if it does happen.
It all begins this Friday the 5th with the MAAC cross country championships in South Jersey, near the hoops tournament site. Here's the rundown on where Marist was picked in each preseason poll:
FALL Men's Cross Country - 5th Women's Cross Country - 2nd Men's Soccer - 3rd - preseason All-MAAC Huib Achterkamp (back), Samuel Ilin (goalkeeper) Women's Soccer - 5th - preseason All-MAAC Nicole Sasso (midfield) Volleyball - 4th
SPRING Baseball - 2nd - preseason All-MAAC Robbie Armitage (3B), Tyler Kapuscinski (DH), Ryan Cardona (P) Softball - 2nd - preseason All-MAAC Kaley Coltrain (C), Caroline Baratta (INF), Ali Milam (OF), Calista Phippen (P) Men's Lacrosse - 1st - preseason All-MAAC Joe Tierney (midfield, Player of Year), Jojo Pirreca (attack) Women's Lacrosse - 4th - preseason All-MAAC Samantha Mehalick (attack), Romy Villemure (defense) Women's Water Polo - 1st (Wagner opted out, as did St. Francis Brooklyn) - preseason All-MAAC Justine Castro (UTIL, Player of Year), Marina Hyham (GK, Goalkeeper of Year), Victoria Orlova (UTIL) Men's Tennis - 4th Women's Tennis - 4th Men's Outdoor Track & Field - 5th Women's Outdoor Track & Field - 6th Women's Rowing - 1st

the race for The Most Glorious Chalice of Richard Ensor is not off to a great start. Both XC teams underperformed their predicted spots by multiple places and volleyball lost twice at home to Iona today (those should have been gimme wins). Women's lax on the other hand beat Manhattan and men's lax opened with what is considered a non-conference win over Detroit.

As Marist teams twiddle their thumbs waiting for the campus pause to be lifted...
Saint Peter's volleyball, which saw its first 8 matches (out of only 10 total) postponed by positives, opts not to bother playing the last 2.
Marist has only played 4 itself and time is running out to reschedule.

I believe the volleyball tournament starts next Thursday and only the top 4 teams make it. So if we can play this weekend and sweep Siena, we could get in depending on what other teams do, if not, we have no shot

Pause extended through 3/31. Going to be the nail in the coffin for both soccer teams and volleyball.

before I go off pants on head and hollering, anybody here on or close to campus that can tell us if the situation is truly bad and warrants this level of response?

before I go off pants on head and hollering, anybody here on or close to campus that can tell us if the situation is truly bad and warrants this level of response? The press release on GoRedFoxes says the pause is voluntary on the part of Marist and the campus infection rate is “well below” the state guidelines for mandating a move to virtual learning. It goes on to say...” Nonetheless, out of an abundance of caution and to protect the health and safety of our community, we believe this is the best course of action to mitigate additional spread of the virus.”

"there's no actual reason to do this, but we don't think athletes are people, and road games cost money, so we're not gonna."
Well that's about what I thought.
A year ago, 6 months ago, 3 months ago, I probably would have been all the way on board. Now we could have done better, apparently we just don't feel like it.

And that sums up the sorry state of the athletic dept at Marist College.
How long until they ax football?
Parity can’t coach forever.

This HAD to be done - www.marist.edu/reopen/dashboardWeek ending 2/29 - 9 positive tests week ending 3/12 - 49 positive tests week ending 3/26 - 254 positive tests How can anyone argue that we are being over cautious? Those figures are scary period. It baffles me that people can't figure out correlation between getting all these sports started up and the increase in cases

I'm not sure that cumulative positives vs active positives, without subtracting false ones, are telling the whole story.
If no athletes are positive, and only 1 dorm is quarantined, and classes are still in person, then what are we doing?
Aren't they telling the kids who have done right the whole time that there is no reward for good behavior and no extra consequences for bad behavior? Why would a S-A give a damn about protocols anymore?
I hate taking the side of the people I've been calling irresponsible jerks for a year now, but there's just got to be a better way. Nothing I can do about it, but the coaches are furious, I can see that from social media.
