Those numbers are JUST new positives each week. So they are ALL active.
When testing stays same and the positive results are going up exponentially how to you NOT stop all sports?
You really think all those kids - weren't doing the right thing?

On a related topic.....”Coming to a venue near you......”. NY State Excelsior Pass ProgramStore your proof of COVID 19 Vaccination or a negative test result on your smart phone or download/print documentation from the website. A part of NY’s reopening strategy. Participating organizations download a companion scanner app to verify. According to the Albany Times Union the Times Union Center, aka TUC, will utilize the program. According to the story the program is voluntary and the “platform is intended to fast-track the re-opening of businesses and venues,,,,,,”. The app can be used at at “major stadiums or arenas, wedding receptions, and catered or other events above the state’s social gathering limit.”

First, the 254 is for a two week period. More importantly, the recent spike has nothing to do with athletics, it’s all about partying. Student athletes have a lot to lose with Covid. The general student body has far less. As an example, the men’s lacrosse team is tested three times a week. With many hundreds of tests this year they have had NO positives - positivity rate is 0.00%. Their coaches instruct them on how to stay safe and they do it because they don’t want to jeopardize their season and the hard work they have put in. In contrast, the players walk down the streets on and off campus and see the party scene in full swing. The Administration has taken the absolute wrong approach by halting practices and games. Why would you want student athletes hanging around in dorm rooms rather than participating in supervised practices and games outside? Makes no sense. Further, why would you take away the one thing most responsible for keeping the positivity rate so low among athletes - their season?

Marist is not doing right thing for the student athletes.

Anyone on here close with Lax programs? I am hearing that many players are now thinking of transferring out based on how the college has handled the Covid situation. According to reports the Lax programs (M/W) have both been 100% negative for weeks and are being punished based on the regular student population who have nothing to lose so they go to parties.

Not close with them but I've heard through the grapevine that the environment this year has been very toxic overall across all the sports teams with the non-athletic administration's attitude towards sports. Add in the recent domestic violence issue with the now-gone football player that spilled out onto social media the other day because the school initially did nothing, it has not been a good time.

The whole school did nothing is misinformation. SM posted that there were numerous complaints about this kid - in truth there was 1 reported and that person recanted. Also the incident happened in NJ (Marist can’t be expected to protect its students in other states). Also unfortunately a text posted on SM isn’t enough to take action. School was waiting for more from Police as well as the victim.

Social media can be so awful it is scary - remember a few months back SM was going crazy trying to get a Marist girl expelled because supposedly posted a pic “going to the beach n*****”.
Marist worked with law enforcement including FBI and guess what?? Here account was hacked and someone else put that post up. People on SM who really think Marist was doing nothing are dopes.
I hated the people for calling out Marist for using the word “alleged” in its post - they had no choice!!! Same reason the news calls someone an alleged killer even with video showing the actual killing. It’s the LAW

I feel badly for the athletes, but isn't the whole school being "punished"? I assumed MCTV, Theater program, SGA, etc. are all not in person either, but someone can correct me if I'm wrong. If you took any group of 25 students I'm sure you'd get a lot of 100% negative tests, but it's hard to pick and choose instead of a blanket policy. I also think the school would be dealing with a lot more controversy if they were letting athletes play during the pause while every other extracurricular is shut down. At least many of the players have some form of athletic scholarship which I assume are also still being honored.

If that it is true, they should leave. If true, Marist is handling this horribly and shamefully for their student athletes. Made sure their "big" programs got their games and tourney in, but the less profile athletes, nah, you can't play. I have always said Marist does well for ALL their student athletes. Can't say that with this situation. Fix it Marist.

They extended the pause another 3 days, now fully up to 3 weeks. That will slam the door on men's and women's soccer, who combined for 1 game played and 0 positive tests throughout the year.
If I were a Marist athlete I would be hard pressed not to opt out of the season the minute the pause is lifted, if it's lifted, then transfer at the end of the semester.
Cannot say I've ever seen such depraved institutional indifference towards those doing the right things while simultaneously doing nothing to those causing the ongoing situation, this thing here that must be a crisis, because that's how it's being presented.

Pause extended to Monday at the earliest. Absolutely absurd. I will never give another dime to this school. Entire Amin & Athletic Office should be fired.

it's certainly not the athletic department's fault...you think they don't want to play? Entirely upper administration. They won't even listen to Tim Murray.
