Pause extended to Monday at the earliest. Absolutely absurd. I will never give another dime to this school. Entire Amin & Athletic Office should be fired. Marist has really done a horrible job for their student athletes with the handling of this. Other schools have not done this to their student athletes. I am a bit shocked it has gone this far.

Either play (if a team has positives, pause them specifically, of course, like everyone does) or pull an Ivy League and say "we're out." Honestly extremely concerned for the next 3-4 years of Marist athletics...I think you're going to see a huge number of would-be returners portal the hell out of here, and I totally would understand.

Sounds like in person classes will resume Monday, they originally made it sound like they were not shifting to remote, so that was unnecessarily confusing.
They also say they will be very cautious about resuming other activities, so I am dubious about their intent and interest in having sports again until August.

www.marist.edu/-/message-from-president-murray-04-10-2021doesn't take too much reading between the lines to see that athletics are done for the semester. They would "consider" a return to sports when a large percentage of the student body is vaccinated. They're starting that process but there's no way they get there in time. All very noble and high minded, but somehow every other school in the MAAC (to say nothing of 95 percent of D1) is playing sports and I highly doubt they're all 100 percent arm-jabbed. At some point, setting yourself standards that are impossible to meet ends up being nothing but an ego trip for highly paid administrators that hurts people who worked so hard for so long doing things right.

I don't blame the school for doing this. The cases are not controlled on campus and you can't play sports if the campus is closed, even if none of the cases have come from the athletics teams. I would really like to see spring sports since the men's lax, softball, and water polo teams should do well, We are so close to having a large portion of the population being vaccinated so it's not worth risking.

This HAD to be done - www.marist.edu/reopen/dashboardWeek ending 2/29 - 9 positive tests week ending 3/12 - 49 positive tests week ending 3/26 - 254 positive tests How can anyone argue that we are being over cautious? Those figures are scary period. It baffles me that people can't figure out correlation between getting all these sports started up and the increase in cases I most certainly agree Nomar - I can't figure out what the problem is --- the students don't follow the rules or the rules aren't enforced. New Yorkers don't seem to follow rules or common sense decisions.

Guys, you need to stop spreading misleading, old information. Marist publishes the number of positives from on campus testing daily. For the past four weeks the weekly totals have fallen from: 172, 92, 79, and 42 on April 9. The positives on April 10 and 11 total 3 in 557 tests. There was a clear and obvious spike a month ago - not related to athletics. There has been equally clear and obvious improvement, and if the halt in athletics is not now eliminated, administration heads should roll.

schoolcovidreportcard.health.ny.gov/#/collegeData;sedCode=131500367380;redirectToHome=trueThis is not misleading info - this is 100% facts - now I agree that the college has messed up athletics so bad this semester. But IMO the school has to treat the student body as the student body - the athletes are not living in a separate area from the general population (at least that is my understanding) - yes basketball got that treatment. week ending 4/9 - 259 cases only 7 positives since 4/10 where are you getting YOUR numbers?

I think the number is 255 not 259 and that number is for 2 weeks, not 1. Also, these numbers are for both on campus and off campus testing. The on campus testing numbers are at the bottom of the page. Another critical number to look at is the total number of active cases which has been reduced from roughly 180 to less than 100.

On the Marist covid dashboard they now show active cases down 50 percent.
Softball has a rescheduled DH at Manhattan for Thursday, in addition to the regularly scheduled 4 games against Niagara tomorrow and Wednesday. I am hopeful this means Dennis has had sense and reason talked into him at long last.
Hoping for the spring teams to continue being smart and having the opportunity to get after it.

Active cases peaked a month ago at about 180. Today it was down to 78, yet the men’s lacrosse game tomorrow has been canceled. Pathetic how the Administration continues to string the kids along and lie to them about what it will take for them to get on the field. The school and it’s leadership are being roasted on numerous social media sites - deservedly so.

The reality is that Dean Murray could give a rats ass about what is said on social media.

You need to ensure that COVID is controlled before playing sports. Would be more embarrassing for the school to infect the entire MAAC than be shut down too long
