peagay, lets think of it another way. I always find the topic of beer is a good comparison for almost any discussion possible. He basically said the three players who were leaving were skunky coors light that had been sitting outside in the sun for a long time, and the new guys are gonna be fresh Sam Adams on a 65 degree day sitting outside at a bar on an open air patio. While the coors light might still be beer, it is disrespectful to call any one skunky coors light. NO?

lol .. yankee your freaking funny dude. I rethought that. I don't think anyone could compare anything light to Watson:). Anyone know a dissapointing high calorie beer that always fails to meet expectations? But seriously, I don't think what he said is a BIG deal. Its just a minor issue I think he can work on. He doesn't do a great job with interviews, etc. However, it seems like he does a great job on 1-1 personal relationship stuff with players. Sounds like the kids who come in to the program LOVE him and what he presents to them. He just needs to carry that over during their time here. Maybe all the losing has made him as tight as a drum and he hasn't let his real personality shine. Need more upbeat stuff on the sideline, not the pouty grousing I typically have seen.

I think you're right Yankee. His personality soured with the losing. He needs to get back to being the guy he was in his press conference. Winning will help.. I've had a few overrated beers in my day.. One that never disappoints me is New Castle Ale.

I think Ken is right and if you asked CM what he was trying to say, I would hope he would say something like "You don't like to see any one of these young men go that you have built a relationship with over the last couple of years, but them leaving did provide an opportunity for us to bring these exciting new players in who we think are going to help move our program forward. We see the potential in these new guys to be a force in conference play as freshmen." I really don't think he meant to defecate on those guys on their way out the door, but rather, he was trying to express his happiness that it might all work out in the end due to the opportunity to bring in these new guys.

sorry dewd, but he did poop on them. Prescott didn't deserve the treatment. Thats about the only reason I pointed it out. Watson did let Martin down and Rusin didn't give his all last year, too many times just waiting in the corner for the ball to come to him. THe best thing Watson did for this community is keeping the D and D stores doors open in a time when many businesses are being shuttered. Martin needs to chill, relax and try to enjoy himself next year. It may be hard with all the negativity building, but what he has done, HAS NOT WORKED.

If you read what he said, I guess you could interpret it as him pooping on them. But listening to the context that he said it in, and believing he does not really wish ill will on them for leaving, I do not believe he meant it to be a slap on those guys, but he now looks at it as an opportunity to pick up some talented new kids to help build for the future. I agree with Ken that he should have chosen his words better, but in my mind he did not mean it in a negative way towards those leaving, but as a positive for those guys coming. For those of you looking for any opening to return poop on CM, you can go ahead and poop on him and turn any words he says on him. Its not going to change what happens next year, as that is where the ultimate judging will be done, at least from my viewpoint.
I do not agree with your last statement that it will be hard next year with "all the negativity building" as you put it, because I get the feeling that the negativity is no longer building and the guys that he has picked up the last 2 years WILL WORK. How come you seem to think it is working when Pearl tells us all how good the new guys are going to be? Are you feeling positivity building or negativity for next year?

Dewd, we are all on a positive track because these are new players and they seem to have a positive attitude. We had this same belief a few years ago as well. Most everyone on the board has said 9-10 MAAC wins is a must next year for Chuck to have shown enough progress in his 4th year. I honestly don't see that happening with him having to turn over his roster so much with so many players leaving him. Hope you are right, hope I am wrong. Do you honestly think 9-10 MAAC wins is doable with all these newbies Dewd? I really will not be able to handle people saying, "Jeez, you know, we said 9-10 wins, BUT, after seeing these kids improve this year, maybe the 9-10 wins TOTAL really was enough". I so can see his supporters pulling that next year.

I agree Dewd... I was talking more as an overall change. I think it would happen to any coach. The think I like is that he's still positive about the future. I definitely love the guys he's bringing in. I know that we were all excited about the last batch too. One difference. These guys played against much better competition and were very productive. I like any guy who puts up 23 a game. Every article I've read says that this guy is a real gem. Thomas has a huge upside. Morton is Morton. He's explosive and a great passer. I like Curry's physical presence. Just need one or two oak trees to help Adam. I'd love Fall and/or Hopper. I hope he fis bringing in more frontcourt help. I'm very much a supporter. There is no point in being anything but. I'll leave that to the idiot Siena fans who bail at a moment's notice. It was a monumental task. They gave CM six years. Let's get it done. CM should be excited. He's got some nice pieces. If he can get those two bigs, he's got the real deal going on. The guys he brought in were all leaders on their teams. Can't say that about the previous guys.

The past is over and gone. The future is not guaranteed. So I guess the only thing any of us can do is wait until the season starts and see what happens.

This is not a start over, lets grow season. This is show what you do as a coach in your 4th year at the college. mNo room for poor results next year IMO.

I do not think for a second that CM was dumping on the three who are leaving. I do believe CM was trying to give his most recent recruits props. I agree CM seems to have a knack for establishing a relationship with a potential recruit. He needs to build the foundation he established during the recruiting stage thru the student athletes college career.
My main reason for being so critical is because Coach Martin represents Marist College. He has to be more careful with how and what he says.
I would agree that once again we are in the hopeful stage of the basketball year. The incoming kids are great! They will take us to the promised land, eventually! I, like most here want all these things and more. Let's hope this group coming in is way better than what we lost.
PS. Just add a big guy who can play.

Yes, the big guy/s is/are a must. Right now, we have Kemp. Everyone else is a guard/small forward type. Its a critically bad situation without a couple bigs. SHOULD have gotten a JUCO as well.

Yankee I am not saying that there is room for poor results because IMO its not and I am a CM supporter. But what I am saying is lets start the season with some support until we know what road this team is going to travel.

But what I am saying is lets start the season with some support until we know what road this team is going to travel. Thats a fair comment. I don't see anyone saying anything negative about the new players. But we need a couple bigs. If we don't get one, they are going to get SLAUGHTERED on the inside. JUCO BIG, JUCO BIG. If Marist is not allowing Martin to recruit one, bad job on them. If Martin doesn't want to go that avenue, big mistake. Can't rely on Kemp who has injury issues and 1 or 2 freshman bigs. BUT, I do like the new kids coming in and Lewis and Morton have star potential.
