UMass is leaving for the Mid-American. College of Charleston I would imagine is the most likely candidate to replace them in the A10 if they choose to add another member, which trickles down to the CAA. Already see a few Fairfield people talking about it.
Siena fans, of course, probably think this is their chance.

Siena fans want out because they think the league is beneath them in mbb. Fairfield wants out because they think the rest of the league is simply beneath them.

Fairfield should go to the CAA so their fans can sniff and sneer about having to play Hampton and North Carolina A&T. Their mere classism has grown boring and I think they'd appreciate the opportunity to engage in barely veiled racism as well.

If Marist has a peer institution in the MAAC, it is Fairfield.
PL for both!

PL prefers Davidson over FF (mainly due to FB), but Davidson isn't leaving A-10. Might get Associate Membership for FB

Oh, I am VERY interested at hearing who those two schools are. I imagine Fairfield is the CAA school, but the A-10 one is intriguing.

Ever read their board? Every other post is about how nobody deserves the honor of being associated with them. Specifically when discussing the CAA their posters have rhetorically recoiled in horror at the idea of sharing a league with Hampton and NCAT. Hmm, what differentiates those two from Campbell and Elon for example. 🤔

Just blindly throwing darts here. Assuming that the A-10 would have its pick, wouldn’t it make more sense to court a school from a large media market? B.U.?, Northeastern? The only school with recent sustained success in mbb is Iona and they are in the NYC media market. Media Markets: New York #1/210, Boston #8/210, and just because Albany #60/210

Since June, Manhattan has cut 63 faculty positions and also eliminated 20 academic majors in January. Apparently athletics was $55 million over budget from 2019 to 2022. I would've thought St. Peters and Rider were more at-risk, but clearly Manhattan is as well. Feels like the NEC and MAAC will eventually be one conference in a few years. nypost.com/2024/03/05/us-news/manhattan-college-cuts-and-nun-firings-spark-protest/

Looks like TM caring about the "budget" has "some" long term value. You'd think Manhattan could be a little closer to the pin with the athletics budget...begs the question, "What was their total institution overspending during the 2019-22 timeframe?" The article says over $50M but not the total.

NEC adding Mercyhurst in Pennsylvania, effective next academic year.
Wonder how long they last before they're in the MAAC.
