James Madison leaving the CAA for the Sun Belt leaves the CAA looking for new additions. Monmouth, Fairfield, and UNC Greensboro are being looked at. The idea seems to be for the CAA to have a North and South division as travel for some schools up to Hofstra and Northeastern is costly. Big loss if they leave the MAAC. Hello Wagner, Sacred Heart, or Bryant.
"CAA for basketball and other sports apart from football would include Charleston, Delaware, Drexel, Elon, Hofstra, Northeastern, Towson, UNC Wilmington and W&M.
CAA Football without JMU includes Albany, Delaware, Elon, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Richmond, Stony Brook, Towson, Villanova and W&M."

Monmouth made the investment into athletics and facilities where others didn't - to go from NEC to CAA in 8 years and improving their national reputation in such a short period of time would be a nice feather in their cap. Also seems fitting that the other school mentioned "Fairfield" also just broke ground on a brand new basketball facility.
Marist did a real nice job on 1/2 of McCann but until we decide to be serious and upgrade - rather then just putting a coat of paint on our out dated gym - no one will take us seriously.
If we lose both those schools, Marist really does need to re-dedicate themselves to getting an invite to the Patriot League.

Time to invest in Football and move to the PL.
The MAAC is not doing anything for us as an institution.

We won't do that and they don't want us even if we did want to invest in football, we're academically nothings compared to them. Loyola and Fairfield might as well both be Arizona State. Marist is DeVry Institute of Refrigerator Repair next to Colgate and Lehigh.

That was one of the reasons for Med Schools was to improve that perceived reputation. And we are not as far off as you just made it seem

If Fairfield and Monmouth do leave I wonder if the MAAC tries to stay at 9 members in the near term. If Iona gets a few deep March Madness runs the extra revenue for the conference would only get split 9 ways instead of 11.

The MAAC has mined nearly everything from the NEC that doesn't have a good football reason to stay in the NEC. Wagner has already declined and I see no reason for Bryant or Sacred Heart to switch.
Mount, FDU, and SFCBK are what's left of the NEC without football to complicate things. Yuck times three.
Watch the skies. The CAA could go after Iona, Siena and Quinnipiac in addition to what's already been discussed. Niagara, Canisius, Saint Peter's, and maybe even Rider and/or Manhattan may be out of financial rope to remain Division I.
The MAAC is in legitimate peril. If you don't think it can happen just that quickly, look at C-USA. 14 schools this year and facing dissolution by July 2023.

It’s one thing to be a target of another conference. It’s another thing to afford the switch. As much as the rabid MBB fans of a couple of the schools you mentioned would like, you can’t just bring your Men’s Basketball Team and leave the rest of your athletic “portfolio” behind in the MAAC. Yankee Trails makes sense for your commitment to the cross country teams. Southwest Airlines 4 to 5 times a year,, not so much.

I can see Monmouth going. They already field a scholarship football program. $$$ seems no object for their athletic Dept. Academics seems second

Where are the upgrades? Peer schools are lapping us.

I really think there are things he WANTS to do to upgrade Marist Athletics competitively that he's not ALLOWED to do by his bosses. Ever notice how all the other MAAC schools have big fundraising initiatives every year, geared at athletics? And that Marist never does? Not really a coincidence. Weinman is our last chance to get it right.

I played FB and i can only recall the team hitting me up once or twice for shakedowns.

What authority does Tim Murray have to spend millions on upgrades? As far as facilities anyway
