I know. A couple kids fail a class and they have to do an about face. Every school weathers storms. The kids try hard and the coaches try. They are up against it. They are the Rays , Twins, or Pirates of the MAAC. Oh well.

Hopefully, they can get everybody in 2 or 3 weeks and we can see what they have. What is he doing with his other 2 spots? Only one early signing?

The announcers talk about the program and tradition. What tradition is that? Two years in the 1980's. Then one year a decade ago. That's not tradition, those are outliers. The program stinks and evidently they think that's good for business.

Just got back. Disgusting first 12 minutes or so of basketball. Fun, competitive basketball for the middle 22 minutes or so. Lewis was obviously rusty coming off the layoff. McGlenaghan probably didn't put up much stats, but you can see he has potential to be a player. Truog 1 rebound in 22 minutes is just sad, but he does look like he can at least be a player unlike last year when he looked like a lamppost. Lawrence didn't play good overall, but on that dunk from the pass from Lewis, you can just see he is more confident. He will be a good third option when Hart comes back. Griffin has potential, looks like he can be a player. Colletta has taken over the lamppost role for this year, he just does nothing on the court. He should be a spot up 3 point shooter. If he can't contribute like Steve Paterno did MANY years ago for Marist from that type of role, then he does literally NOTHING. Lee is going to be good, but he passed up a couple open 3's. He has to take them. Manny Thomas was incredible on defense, again not sure if it shows up in the boxscore, but he was disruptive a lot of times in that 22 minute stretch in the middle of the game. He could have been so much more here if developed properly under Martin and Bower. Overall, I am optimistic for one main reason. Makers offense led to many nice shots that Marist just missed, especially in the early portion of the game. At one point I was going to yell out, "aim for the white box", like you tell a kid because they kept bricking layups or shots from inside 5 feet. Then I remembered I had my two kids with me and decided not to yell out. You can see the difference and potential under this coach. I am confident if we are patient we will be very happy by the end of this year and future years.

They are like the Cowboys. No titles until the "owner" goes. President Murray is going nowhere. He has done a lot of great things for this college. I know we hate how they think Marist is a mini Harvard and don't allow certain players, but Murray is not being canned because the mens team has stunk.

So how about taking steps to remove the foot from the throat of the MBB Program.

I am confident if we are patient we will be very happy by the end of this year and future years. You are reaching my friend to say anything positive. This group outside of Lewis and Hart is WORSE than the 1-29 and 6-27 CM teams. Worse. And I love that Lawrence has gotten better, but if he's your third option you have big time talent issues. Guess what, Marist has BIG TIME talent issues. KJ Lee reminds me more of DeJuan Goodwin than Khalid Hart. That's a problem. Griffin is all athleticism, no refined bball skill. Also a big problem. That Coil and Monah can't crack this front court which might be the WORST in DI another huge problem. I agree on McClenagan. He's got potential. Overall those calling the shots in regard to this program need to make a decision. Either pull the restrictions and compete on a level playing field or jump down in leagues/divisions. I have some shocking news for them. Marist will NEVER be Ivy league level and likely never be Patriot level academically. So there's no reason to ban JUCO recruiting or force everyone to score a 1400 on their SAT's to get in here and play basketball. I still don;t understand the transfer issue. I would bet money that the David Bennett's, Ryan Schneider's Blake Sonne's and Bo Larragan's of the world INCREASED the teams GPA when they were here.

Here's a few other nasty stats to pile on. Tonight was St Joes highest scoring game of the season, the only time they've shot over 50% from the field and the only time they've made as many as 7 three's in a game. Also number 15 scored a career high with those 23 points. He's a JR and had only scored 191 pts his entire career coming into tonight.

I will agree Marist played horrid defense on challenging jump shots. Time after time players just put their hands up but left a couple of feet space. That is just ridiculous. Obviously they are probably afraid to get driven past and have no rim protector back there. BUT you just can't leave jump shots that wide open. They did do a good job during that middle game period collapsing down and swatting balls away etc, especially Manny Thomas.

Those are exactly the type of guys I was thinking of.. Bennett and Larragan.. Ingles too.. They have had too many guys over the years that just didn't look like they belonged at a D-1 level. Even in the good years. You just watch the way they run and shoot and it's glaring. I'm still hopeful about Momah. It will be sad if Bower's recruiting class didn't produce at least three contributors. That would mean that it was a horrible hire. It's just bizarre that a school that prides itself on being the best of the MAAC can't get the cream of the MAAC crop to come there. I know Murray isn't going anywhere Yankee. It seems like he's the problem though. If Bower's guys don't pan out, we should all agree that the problem has never really been with any of the coaches. I know you never blame TM, but what the hell does he say to DM?? Keep doing what you're doing???... It will work someday??. He should be telling him that he needs to give this coach the same ability to recruit that every other MAAC coach has. The failures of Men's basketball makes the airwaves get a lot more publicity than the successes of anything else. It's embarrassing. They keep asking me to renew my season tickets. I will next year if I feel they are seriously trying to win. It seems like lip service to me. This coach is great but he isn't going to have consistent success unless he can recruit the same guys everyone else can. Have the other schools had problems with their kids?? Minimal I'd say. Someone said it. How the hell can you be down 20 in the first half on your home court against a low scoring team? And Ed Weir is playing them up like they're the Final 4 St Joes team of years ago. It's just a continual pipe dream. I love Parker. It seems like every guy is going to have to be a Parker type for them to be successful though. No room for error with the way these guys set rules. No way they should ever be a .500 or lower team in this league on a consistent basis. And the loveable losers keep putting up with it and dreaming.

I wouldn't compare Lee to Goodwin. He's a lot better than that. Goodwin was playing on one leg. Lee would be fine if he had 4 good players around him. I want a State Of the Program address from the AD. That's another thing. They never really talk about anything . It's like a big secret.. Nobody ever gets asked tough questions..

They need to bring in 2 veteran guys that can help the younger guys win next year. These kids keep getting pounded and they'll never develop. We're tough on Lewis sometimes but imagine if he played on another MAAC team with help??

He lacks quickness ggaff and he's not a great shooter. He can't at the moment penetrate consistently and create shots for himself or teammates. He's a good ball handler, physically strong and generally doesnt turn it over so there a place for him at this level. Not sure it's ever as a starting PG though. He's gotten to play ALOT of minutes early on and it's telling that he;s only had one game in which he was able to generate offense for himself (vs Penn the most unathletic team on the schedule). With all those minutes I expect to seem him make some mistakes and maybe fatigue at the end of games but I would also expect he would have some wow moments, beating guys off the dribble and converting at the rim. Just havent seen it cause he can't seem to turn the corner on his defenders. Hatton, Kennedy, Jordan and Hart has all shown this skill by this time in their careers.

Maker's offense is great. But the brass needs to know winning is more about the Jimmys and the Joes than the xs and the os...I don't care if you're John Wooden. He was a great coach. But he had the best players who also happened to be fundamentally sound.

Hey Yankee. I agree. Murray's done a great job with the school's academics. We're the idiots. Let's turn this into an academic forum. You're up Oldfox. What do you think of our professors for the upcoming semester? I love the guys they have for Investment Analysis.. lol What do you think?
