dewd,
I was just referring to a poster who had said that they knew the AD wasn't happy and that CM wasn't coming back. I don't know about all of the bickering with players, coaches , etc. I agree that the 4 yr plan is usually the way to go. I thought they made a 6 yr deal. Was it 5? The problem is that if they let him go, nobody would probably want the job without the security of at least 4 yrs. I thought the results would be different this year. I would like Chuck to say that the whole thing will come together with a Morton type at point. I would like to hear him say that the pieces are in place to win next year. Just something that gives us the reason to believe that these pieces can win. I think every guy has shown an ability to play at one time or another. Can he get them on the same page? I would love the ability to ask questions. I'd flat out ask. "Next year is yr 4. Do you feel that you have the players to challenge for a title?" 4 yrs should be the cutoff. In his case, I treat it as 3. This yr wasn't as good as yr 2 should be though. I'm also making the assumption that the coaching staff isn't at each other's throats. If that was the case, I'd make some sort of switch after the season. I would figure if it is as bad as some posters have said, one or more coaches would resign and players would leave. I'll assume that the AD will do what's best for Marist. I'm assuming he's in tune with everything. If they penny pinch , they'll never win. It seems like they are making a commitment to improve with the renovations. I hate to say it. They have to spend with Siena or they won't win. It's just like MLB. You gotta pay the coach top dollar. If they do go in a different direction, they'll have do it. I know it's tough. They don't draw like Siena.

he GOT a five year contract - but he has in no way EARNED it PERIOD to say other wise is just a joke. Maybe in philosophically world (which to me mean fantasy) he earned it BUT in the REAL world he has not come close to earning anything Are you Bill, my morally bankrupt friend who has a hard time committing to a green banana? You sound just like him! CM committed to Marist, left a team as a lead assistant that all but won the championship, uprooted his family and committed to a mid-major program on a downward spiral at the tail-end of his first recruiting cycle. As part of that commitment, he was expected to work as hard as he could to turn the program around. In spite of the record, I have not heard anything from anybody saying he has not worked hard. For that commitment, he was guaranteed 5 years of pay as the head coach and has earned it.

ggaff, it may be 6 years, I was just going by what I thought I read here. I only know that it is for more than just next year. Would they eat 3 years of the contract if it is 6 total?

you are countering with a kidzworld article? REALLY? And if I posted something like this, I would have been chastised by everyone saying what do professional athletes making millions of dollars in pro sports have to do with coaching college teams? And if I was on the debate team, I could take the argument that these guys earned these contracts while being underpaid (or not paid from college sports) just prior to signing these contracts.

(In my best Pee Wee Herman voice) I know you are, but what am I? nahah! Coach K couldn't coach either when he was 7-21 in the ACC in his 2nd and 3rd years either, right?

Coach K reference again. Lock him up seargeant. Thats so insulting to Coach K, its tantamount to libel. Martin can't coach. I they keep him, its financial. 3 years and still getting his butt kicked by coach after coach. Its enough. He will get his money, thats all Marist is obligated to do.

I will keep bringing up my points until someone refutes them. You guys would have wanted to run Coach K out of town too after year 3. That is my point. You want facts, I give you facts. You brush them off because there is no good counter point.
Bottom line, I am willing to try one more year as is, before giving up and starting over with some other unknown entity. When RJ was playing at his best, the team had a little swagger after they swept the Canisius and Niagara at the McCann center. Maybe after that Niagara game, he realized his grades were not going to cut it and his play fell off and the rest of the team followed. Who knows what happened after that. But, if Morton can bring that back and the game slows down a little more for the juniors and sophomores as I hear it usually does, these guys can be decent next year. To me, the investment of one more year is worth the gamble.

One thing I will say is this. In the games that they have let things get away, there have been a slew of really dumb decisions made by players. Rusin with horrible shot selection, terrible turnovers. That's just players doing stupid things. They can correct those things. These guys came from winning programs. I would have blown up more than CM has. It's not like they coach players to do stupid things. They'll play well for stretches. The ball movement is good in stretches. He's the coach, he's accountable. I do think if the players had held up their end of the bargain, they'd have won the Loyola and Manhattan games and not let the Niagara and a few others get out of hand. I don't think Dewd is in any way comparing Coach K and CM. He's just pointing out the possibility of pulling the plug too quick. Coach K might have won 3 games with that team last yr. I doubt he'd have won more, based on the lack of size and experience. This yr is disappointing. I do think the players who have talent need to get their heads out of their asses. Their are times when I feel like I could be as effective as Candon Rusin is. There is no excuse for his performance other than between his ears. He's better than he's showed. He needs to start taking good shots, making them when open. They've had at least 5 games this year when they were on the verge of taking control of a game and he's missed wide open threes. That's how you win games. That isn't the coach's fault. Neither are unforced errors. I can't explain the reason for it. I just know these players ought to be ashamed of their performances.

you act like you the only one that wants to win ... I played football and bball in HS ... I was a big time hitter/ tackler on special teams and defense and took it very serious .. In 1999 and 2000 .. i was the stronger kid in Dutchess county pound for pound ... i benched over 300 pounds, squat over 350 and dead left over 400 .... my point is ... as a former athlete as well .. myself and many others are very competitive also .... and want to win. The difference is, myself and others on this board are smart enough to understand that it takes time to rebuild a program ... a true fan support their team through hard time and not bitch about it ...

5-50 _ "glory days" I am sorry u peaked in High School .... the fact that you can not spot a lost cause now and would rather wait anlher year THEN start over is foolish....this guy and this team have not gotten better as this year progressed and you seem to think that will all change with 1 guy. Clueless.
