You guys all seem to have the coach fired and you seem to think that it is easy turning a program around in less than 3 years, but I think that is the rare exception. If you only allow a guy 3 years (most of you only gave him 2), you are going to go through a series of 3-year coaching regimes and continual losing until you hit that lucky exception. In spite of this year’s results, I think CM should be given at least one more year to see what he can do with Morton, Thomas and the talent that is here. There is some talent and I do not think it would take a lot to get some confidence and positive vibes going next year with the experience the current players have and the spunk that Morton seems to come with. To turn around a Bill Parcells phrase, CM shopped for the groceries, don’t you think he deserves a chance to put the meal together? I would agree with you if their was ANYTHING positive to point to. It has gotten so bad that everyones only hope right now is on an 80 rated ESPN recruit. Yes, he looks talented. However, he is not Michael Jordan. What on the court is showing you that he has got them going in the right direction. Convince us. You don't ever try that. Instead you give us stuff like he needs another year. Or that he is just getting his guys now. Or, he was left with crap. Or............TELL US THE POSITIVES YOU SEE.

I want Marist next choice to have head coaching experience on some level. It can be a D2 guy, it can be a former head coach, Jerry Dunn is another experienced guy, it can even be a top high school guy. Marist needs someone who CAN BE TRUSTED with knowing how to run a program. I don't think they are in a position to take another unknown in an assistant. Skinner really could be an option IMO. He isn't going to be coveted by larger schools because of his age. However, he is the exact type that can get this program settled, and on the right track. He could get offers from A-10 level or CAA schools, so they need to eschew Martin as soon has possible and make it known the WANT him. Get Skinner. He did assist here for 2 years in the early 80's. So, its not a complete unknown.

5-50 - he has earned the 4th year If he was 50-5 he would be coaching South Florida next year. Dont think for a second he wouldnt go. So why shouldnt he get the door for being the opposite of 'a good hire'?

Agreed - if this was a 8-17 team with a number of single digit loses - then i too would see good things coming. This team is getting destroyed and i do mean destroyed by very bad teams - zero improvement in 3 years doesnt make believe that will change in 9 months. We have even improved as this year has gone on.

Holy Cross canned their new coach after 1 disastrous year last year in Kearney. Martin has had 3 horrific years. Thanks for trying, you get to leave with a 2 year payoff and will get a good assistant gig. This is not an unfair thing if he is canned.

I look at this year as his first bad year (worth firing). Last yr he had no shot. I agree with everybody that the main problem is that they shouldn't be getting beat by 15-25 every other game. One thing I will say. The league's is unpredictable. I do think Niagara is capable of upsetting someone in the tourney. Everybody said Loyola is bad. I guess that means Siena sucks too. :-)

CM earned his 4th year when he signed a 5-year contract. Did you ever consider that maybe the AD knows what he is doing. Look at HIS track record. He must have known that it would take more than 3 years to turn this program around and that is why he offered CM a 5-year contract. Mr. Murray was probably looking at 4 years to turn it around and then you eat the lame duck year if you have to.
ggaff, as usual, we are of like minds. I missed a couple of days on this board and did not see any "inside info". What did I miss? I thought you said the AD was silent? Do we have a mole?

A few posts back you were discussing which players you would like to see stay and there were 6 or 7 or more guys you listed as those you would like to see stay. With their experience and talent, with the right injection of confidence, cockiness and leadership that might come with Morton, they could prosper.

CM earned his 4th year when he signed a 5-year contract - WOW really!!!!! REALLY! Let me tell you why in two different ways: Yes, philosophically, he earned the 4th year when Marist was willing to make a commitment to him for 5 years. If they gave him a 3-year contract, it would be a different story. With a 3-year contract, this year or last year would have been the make or break year, but obviously Marist also thought he should be given a commitment longer than 3 years or they would not have done it. By getting that 5-year commitment up front, CM earned his 4th year when he signed the contract. He agreed to give 5 years of his life (including year 4) to Marist in exchange for the head coaching position. Yes, physically, he earned the 4th year when he signed the 5-year contract. He will be paid for year 4 whether he is coaching or not because he signed the 5-year contract. Business 101 (see I ain’t so dumb).

The only experience some guys have here is bad experience. Kind of like if it wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all!

Well things have changed since that 5 year commitment was made by both parties. The team got worse instead of better. End of story!

he GOT a five year contract - but he has in no way EARNED it PERIOD to say other wise is just a joke.
Maybe in philosophically world (which to me mean fantasy) he earned it BUT in the REAL world he has not come close to earning anything
