Yea as much as I don't care for Pitino, he's always been a pretty insightful guy (he's just a snake oil salesman). But he's dead on here. The game is suffering big time, particularly at the MAAC level.

I do like how he says he doesn't blame the student athletes, because they should try and make the most out of it.
I do start to wonder if we will start to see players start to stay because a lot these guys don't excel at the bigger schools. Also, at some point most everyone will have transferred and no one will be able to enter the portal lol

Did they pass that officially? I thought it was still just 1 free transfer and 1 free grad transfer

I don't think we're going back , he's an old coach , new coaches coming up are going to be used to transfers .Like everything else in life , things change and youve gotta roll with the changes good and bad. Just saw someone bitching about cashless pizza places and how they should all just take just cash , we're not going back .It's still a good product (college basketball). I know it takes 1/3 of the season before i can even assess and become familiar with my favorite teams but now i'm loving it as much as i ever had .

The NCAA has the problem with sports that generate high revenue (basketball and football) versus every other sport. Unfortunately, all the rules are being changed for power 5 conference football (and maybe a sprinkle of basketball) without considering the other sports.

Another who is saying exactly what I am thinking - really starts around the .55 sec mark it seems to me all hell broke loose after the transfer portal went from having to wait a year after transferring to playing immediately after you transferred , The NIL thing was a part of it but i don't think it's a big part of it .correct me if i'm wrong , the years Marist had some big exoduses ,i don't believe those kids were leaving for NIL money ,they were leaving for hopes of getting on a better team and/or more playing time .

If you are a fan of the bigger schools using the mid majors as recruiting grounds - then yeah. There are schools out there who don’t even watch HS anymore just recruit low to mid major best players.
If you do t have problem being in a conference that will get gutted year in and year out - then this is the NCAA for you

And what's worse is that the game has suffered tremendously. I think this is the worst quality college hoops of my lifetime. 99.9% of players aged 18-22 need to develop their games. It's hard to develop your game in a new system every year with new coaches. Imagine if Jared Jordan had transferred three times during his four years. He would have never turned into the player he became.
I see a kid like Jadin Collins who has a ton of potential and I just hope he stays here to realize that potential.

I wish I could pinpoint the reason my college basketball interest dropped off a cliff in the past 5-10 years. It wasn't NIL or transfers, maybe it was just Marist being bad for a long time, but it's not like I'm suddenly invested now that we're decent.
The NCAA tournament is still fun but the season is a slog and the players are random names I've never heard of.
