My bad ... great job guys - you really gave it your all, so things didn't fall your way, don't worry its only a game.... let's go out for ice cream. When did everyone get so soft and just accept losing and praise it - they blew a 13 point lead, that would upset some people

Marist gave everything they had today. They got beat. Is it ok if I say good effort?

Yankee - this season has been a good stepping stone, a big step in right direction. If we lose the first game in tourney this season is still a success IF we keep all our young players IF we lose our key players then yeah season is not that good. I know you don't care that all our wins have come again some really really bad teams, but at same time we didn't lose to them.
Keep players bring in 1 or 2 more pieces, improve out of conference schedule and let's see how they do. This years team was never the team that was going to get us back to NCAAs but there are definitely some of the pieces here

Not for me - when I lost a game I never gave a shit about effort Ok. But your need to point out when others say positive stuff is insane at this point. Why does it kill you to admit they played hard. They lost. Happens. I would be pissed if they went through the motions or half assed it. That was not case today. This is why game loss threads are longer. Some of you thrive on wanting to point out the negative when they lose.

The played great for about 30 minutes and then when refs started blowing the every second they had no good offensive possessions down the stretch. You cant blow this lead even with the poor officiating. A lot of missed short shots down the stretch. It's hard to be positive about this game, I think the expectations of this team is just different than Marist teams in the past.

I’m usually Pollyanna around here but this was a terrible and costly loss. I don’t see how you can laud Marist’s effort after blowing a 13 point second half lead. You could laud St. Peter’s for getting into Marist’s heads the way they did, but not Marist. Cooley can’t be taking opponents bait and losing his cool. You can’t react to what some a*hole opponent says and get your 4th and 5th fouls on a single play. He lost his cool at ND and that may have cost them that game. They need his 3 point shooting and his experienced hand at the end of games, especially at the free throw line. This is a killer of a loss and puts them in the position of having to beat teams better than St. Peter’s to earn a bye. Just beating Iona won’t get it done. They shot themselves in the foot today. This officiating crew should not be assigned to another St. Peter’s game this season. St. Peter’s fouls endlessly. Hand checks, hip check, body checks. They know the refs won’t call them all so they turn the game into the physical contest they want. Cooley wasn’t the only one who took the bait today, The officiating crew took the bait too.

I feel the same way about the Niagara women's team. They both play very physical and I feel like refs don't officiate evenly against those teams. They think "Oh well I call that, everyone will just foul out so don't want. We'll let them get away with a little more" Let them get into foul trouble and learn how to adjust. If you let too much go, people can get hurt

I disagree with a lot of this post, but I respect your view on the issue. I will always respect a team that gives all they have. Does anyone here think Marist players gave up or half assed it last 7 or so minutes? I don't. I think they simply got beat. I am never going to bash a team that loses that put it all out there. I bashed them for effort in quinny game, because they didn't go full out on boards. Today was just about getting beat

Getting beat by a better team is one type of beat.
Getting beat due to poor execution (and refs) is another type.
This was the latter beaten kind.

Getting beat by a better team is one type of beat. Getting beat due to poor execution (and refs) is another type. This was the latter beaten kind. Marist went into this game with a game plan. A few minutes before game they lose their best player, their interior presence. They played well, got beat. St. Peters locked down on D, no open 3 pointers in 2nd half. Guess why. Because no threat down low. Marist played well under the circumstances, but got beat, on the road, against a top defensive team, without their star center, who got hurt minutes before game started. We look stupid to be complaining, whining or bashing.
