Great atmosphere in AC last night. Got a ticket last minute and went with some old college friends I haven't seen in a few years. The place really went crazy when we tied it at 46, thought we had a chance, but those bad inbounds in the last 5 minutes were killers.

Don't know if we could have had a better game plan for that . But hand it to Pitino and the relentless press which is his forte .

Agreed. Need to change the culture, especially with students. Last year the ESPNU senior night game was great. A nice postseason run this year. Need to keep it going The student fan culture won't change until we consistently show that Marist values athletics by putting up a good product AND a good production. The game environment for all sport at Marist is amateur hour - mistakes during announcements, mistakes during the national anthem, poor quality video production, the website is a joke, we can't even get ticketing right. Either the administation needs to start demanding excellence and providing the resources needed to get it, or things will only get worse - yes things can get much worse. All due credit to the team, but the reality is we won a playin game against a Manhattan team that didn't have a coach the week before the season started. We played one great game to upset Quinnipiac, we beat a St. Peter's side who was as amazed as we were to be playing in a semi-final and then we played a decent 10 minutes today. One weekend doesn't make a season and it won't give us momentum. This weekend was a sad glimpse into what could be if only the administration gave a crap. the student fan culture won't come till we win ,.its like what comes first the chicken or egg thing ..environment ,,social media ..administration, all the other things u spoke about ..or just plain winning ..everyone likes a winner .Even as a losing team we still have had respectable crowds beyond the students in terms of community support ..although that has tailed off .i look AT Vermont ..we are certainly capable of getting there ..that is a run down old arena i think but packed all the time ...its winning that brings students and the community out there ..and winning year to year ...not just one good year and 5 bad ones ...I look at the womens program at peak when they packed the stands ..they packed them because they were winning so much .

The math is pretty simple:
Competent Athletic Dept + Less Restrictive Recruiting + Renovated McCann Arena= Better Team
A Better Team + Better Branding (More Local Adverts, Website Redesign, Student Activities Promotions) = Higher Attendance
Higher Attendance + Packed Student Section = More Difficult Atmosphere for Visiting Teams to Play In
Better Team x Higher Attendance x Louder Atmosphere = A Winning Season
This problem starts in the Athletic Department and TM, kick his ass to the curb and bring in someone like Justin Sell from South Dakota State or Nicki Moore from Colgate; AD's that cut their teeth in the Power 5. Don't just bring any rando in with no experience in the big leagues.

The only thing I will say is we have NO restrictions on recruiting - we have never not accepted an eligible player. This comes from highest level of admissions.
Only way they do not accept a player is if they would not be eligible by the NCAA

Only way they do not accept a player is if they would not be eligible by the NCAA There are lots of unreasonable restrictions on recruiting. Until very recently, transfers were forbiddden - still (supposed to be) very strictly regulated by TM. Recruiting budgets are laughable. Scholarship structure is out-dated and the limits (outside of BB) are rediculous. Zero effort made on NIL. Admissions is more of a hinderance than a help.

Well BB is all I’m talking about
If budget is what you mean by restrictions - I agree
And transfers have been allowed for years now so that isn’t an excuse
Academics has never been a deterrent by admissions - again unless their transcripts were being questioned by NCAA (maybe HS is not accredited, or classes are being questioned - don’t think this has come up but those would be issues)
So outside of spending more money not sure what other restrictions there are

So are you saying in other sports they would accept a player who is academically ineligible?

the floor is open for next years team as Nomar33 is right, Dunne has pretty much full control of recruiting ..no excuse there ..maristforward is right in that we are currently not involved in NIL .i don't know if that is Murrays doing or not ..I don't know if any wealthy people have stepped up and asked Murray if they can get involved ..It should be allowed ..there is nothing seedy about it ..its just the way things are now .as for how the team is looked upon next year i'm afraid we will go back to things as they were with student and outside attendance as i think all will wonder if this an aberration or if this is a real turn in the program ..I think we'll gain some attendees but that will be quickly quelled if we start off with a lot of losses .Getting ready now to watch Pickett in the Big Ten Final
