I was at every single practice for 3 years. I did not hear the guy curse once. He might have “yelled” a few times per season. By basketball coach standards he was remarkably tame lol

It’s a combination of things…the players today (not all but many), are entitled snowflakes. They can’t be told anything. Coach had a great run. It started at Lourdes when I was a student there. He has been incredible. One of the best coaches in women’s basketball…ever. Everyone has a prime. In his, he could have gone almost anywhere he wanted to coach. But like anything in life, father time is undefeated. Jim Boeheim just bowed out today after 47 years. Things change, life’s priorities change…enjoy the golf course coach, you deserve it…

Last years roster had some players who didn't fit, whined about everything, and they left. Not missed I've been a reader on this page for awhile now, but never have I posted my thoughts. I decided to create an account and share some thoughts. This is maybe the 500th time that one of you active members has said something negative about players from a full season ago. These players have moved onto new programs for many reasons. It's time you move on as well. I know you think you know the only reason they left was because they were bratty and didn't want to work hard, but how could you possibly know? How could any of you know what happens behind the scenes of this program? You are all bystanders with an outside perspective who have no idea what really could happen behind closed doors. These players most likely left because they were miserable in a program with a poor head coach who never flashes a smile and who lost his magic many years ago. You really think TK leaving had nothing to do with the basketball program? She willingly moved on to a new school in a better conference. She knew she wouldn't be an all-conference player and get the minutes like she did in a Marist uniform. However, she left because she was miserable. She was getting the minutes, was an all-MAAC player, and she was still miserable. She, along with all the others who left the program, were most likely in a dark place and knew the grass would be greener on the other side. Getting less minutes or even switching divisions doesn't mean these girls were happier in Poughkeepsie than where they are now - I can almost guarantee you they weren't. Do you guys also think Barcello decided to just selfishly quit on the team in her senior season after moving her life from Arizona to New York for 3 seasons? You got to be kidding me. I can guarantee you there's more to that story the program doesn't want you to know. I'm sure there's more to everyone's story that is behind swept under the rug to protect their reputation. Those girls probably didn't just leave because coach yelled at them. Those are just a few of my thoughts. I think it's time to move on to players who are actively on the roster and stop dwelling on those who decided to leave.

You really think TK leaving had nothing to do with the basketball program? - Yes it was the Marist College culture she struggled with.
Do you guys also think Barcello decided to just selfishly quit on the team in her senior season after moving her life from Arizona to New York for 3 seasons? Again yes with every fiber in my body. She wanted to keep 2 years of eligibility.
The two who transferred created a negative culture - that came from players on team. As tough as this year was that drama was gone.
“ a program with a poor head coach”….. yeah all those MAAC titles, back to back titles just 2 years ago, an assistant on US Women’s National Team, HOF candidate, his huge coaching tree, all the women’s basketball alum that took time to come back and pay tribute to him ….. yeah issue is him NOT the girls who couldn’t hack it.

If that's what you want to believe. I personally think it's deeper than that, for both TK and Barcello. Of course that's what you think because that's what the staff wanted you to hear. Barcello would have never done anything malicious to her teammates or her coaches. She was hurt and wanted to redshirt. Coaches probably kicked her off the team. As for the other two you're referring to - they seemed to be great friends with many of the girls. I went to many games and saw how they interacted in warmups and after the games. I believe the problem with last years group was lack of leadership by both captains and coaches. And like I said - a coach who lost his magic. Not disregarding any of his former accolades.

None of what I post came from staff….. also I am sure TK regrets her choice (maybe not leaving) but definitely where she went.

I love that a coach lost his magic just 2 years ago basically with 1 recruiting class - the magic was there with the Hands, Gilmer, Grace, Willow, Best ….
Those teams were always smiling, supporting, working together…. then for first time ever last year you saw eye rolling during time outs, players walking away from coach, taking back…. Yeah that is on him.

Again - your entire opinion is based on an outsider's perspective. It's easy to run with a narrative because you can't possibly believe coach would ever be at fault for anything. None of us know what really happened behind the scenes. These are young adults who never had issues anywhere. It's important to keep an open mind
Also - he had the talent this year to make a little noise in the MAAC. No noise was made. It's easy to just run the same offense for 20 years and make no adjustments whatsoever. Didn't seem to work for his team for the last 2 years so not sure why he didn't try something new. I'm not saying to completely stray away from motion, but a coach is supposed to adjust in times of need.

Is it just basketball that encourages coaches yelling during games? I don't see it on the football field, hockey rink, baseball diamond, volleyball court etc. I sat for years across from the bench and watched as Coach would yell at the players during the game and wonder why? What wasn't working in practice that caused this kind of behavior in Coach during the games? What was missed, misunderstood etc.? I remember Rachel was ready to take the scoring title and she was a little too anxious and took a few bad shots and instead of just talking to her and say relax, just play your game it will come, he sat her down for a good few minutes. What a way to support your player. I'm sure that hurt her deep inside-unspoken of course but it went to coaching style. It worked for years but like anything else times change , players change, culture changes and yes- coaching style needs to change for that coach to stay relevant with the players they have to work with. Just ask NY Giants Coach Tom Coughlin.
It was great fun and a great run for years but it is a long overdue time for change and I hope Erin is given the chance to succeed.

If she was anxious and missed a few shots - sitting your best player for a few minutes so she could gather herself and get her head back in game was brilliant.
No yelling in Football, hockey, or soccer? Not sure if you watch games on mute. There is plenty.
If he is screaming - “guard # 20” , “ you need to get your ass back on defense”. “We scouted her she always goes left”, “stop heaving up bad shots” “for @@$@ box out” “stop being so lazy on d” “your as fast as a blade of grass” (I heard that one a lot when I played and I was fastest player on team)
If that bothers you - DONT play sports !!!!
You can call me anything out of a court or field, you can say “you suck” “you’re killing us out there” “you need to be replaced”…. None of that matters
Now say “you suck” or “you’re a piece of shit” in hallway that is different. On they field they are yelling at me the player in the hallway it is about me the person…. Big difference one which has been lost by today’s generation.
It’s like you never watched any opposing coaches - 90% of them made Giorgis look like a mute

Like I said - if you care about how people perceive you as a player - do NOT play sports!!!!
If you miss layups, or shoot .180 from 3PT land or allow an opponent to put up 30 on you - your gonna hear it.
The "hey its ok" "don't worry about it" "it doesn't matter" "its only a game" - that is for REC and intramural - not at this level

As a coach I think it’s most important to build relationships off the court. If you build a relationship with a player off the court, then they will respond positively to being yelled at on the court. If there’s no relationship between player and coach and all they ever do is get yelled at, it makes them question whether this guy is really in their corner or not. All coaches yell to some extent, but not all create relationships off the court. I’m sure this is something that has been lacking the last few years as coach has gotten older
