Thank you Coach Giorgis for 21 years of superb coaching of the Marist Women’s Basketball team. You alone elevated the Marist Woman’s basketball program to national prominence. You have been the mentor of many young & successful woman basketball coaches. It has been a joy to watch you Coach & develop young women over the years. Oh, & thank you for all the wins & championships. You will be missed but I sure hope you will continue to come the Marist basketball games.
You deserve the time off, you’ve earned it.

I’ve watched the boards for many years, never posted until now. Thank you Ken for starting this thread. I’m very disappointed that no one else has commented. It’s like they are so negative that all they want is to be negative and can’t even say thank you for all the good years. Thank you to Coach for all the good years. Thank you for putting Marist on the map. Thank you for your leadership. Thank you for mentoring so many young women, who have grown up to be wonderful ladies, who continue your legacy, whether they are teaching, coaching, great moms or just awesome human beings. Thank you thank you thank you. Today, we honor you. Today we send you off on the best celebration ever, so fitting for such a great human being. Your faith in the Lord has lead most of your decisions in life, and that has been unwavering. I’m sorry the bloggers here could not create a thread so long, it would take hours to read, I guess that is only for the negative comments. I rise above this, and say THANK YOU COACH GIORGIS! I can’t wait for today’s festivities to begin. Praying we can get a win, but knowing you, that really doesn’t matter, as long as the players play to the best of their ability and stay safe, that’s what you would want and that’s all we can ever ask for. THANK YOU!!

It is surprising and disappointing that there aren't more posts here to honor Brian for all he's done. I've posted a few times in the past recognizing him for the quality of the young women he's recruited, and the way Marist has typically played the game with passion and teamwork. He will be sorely missed.

birdie20 - We have been praising coach for 20 years - you come on 1 time and call us out. Pitiful - this thread will take place in its own time - today is not end and this thread isn't going to be completed by end of today. Go through all the treads and you will see memories people have, thanks etc.

Thanks Nomar. You beat me to it.
That’s correct. For the past 20 years or so the Marist Hoops Board has supported a section regarding Women’s Basketball. For all the newbies….that’s pretty remarkable. Only one other MAAC chat board has a section exclusively dedicated to wbb and that is a recent development. Heck, you won’t even find dedicated wbb section in many power 5 conference boards. Whenever Giorgis was attacked our posting community pushed back and hard. We have people posting here that represent the full spectrum of the fan base. We have Alum, community members, students, player parents and more. Some might be really surprised by who stops by to post.
If anyone cared to look there is a pinned thread from a former player. Reading it should be instructive regarding the character of the people who post here and how they feel about the program and the people associated with it. They don’t deserve to be criticized because some think there is only one way to show appreciation for all Coach Giorgis has done.
Finally, the program can be criticized. That’s our right as fans and that’s what fans do. As Nomar points out, we also praise. Overwhelming praise and support because the program gave us 21 years worth of reasons to praise and celebrate. All it takes to know that is to be part of this community.
So please, by all means, use Ken’s thread to say “Thank you Coach Giorgis” for one heck of a ride and for all you do for your players, coaches, Marist College and mid-major college basketball.

What a wonderful sendoff yesterday for Coach! I know they didn’t win, but it was wonderful to see so many players come back to show their love for Brian. Sorry if I seemed annoyed in my original post, but was saddened that when Ken started the thread, no one else had responded. Athletics did an awesome job with the planning and the ceremony after. Hope a lot of you attended also.

There are also some responses (including mine) on the game thread from yesterday.
Shoutout to Tony Bozzella for his attendance and really nice speech, in addition to all the Marist-community speakers!

I think there will be stories told for years to come. For me the list is long. Watching the Iowa St game at Cameron indoor first round NCAA is up there though.
You want to know what kind of person he was you don’t have to look far - all his past players and coaches that comeback speaks volumes.
I had the pleasure a few week backs to hang with Sydney Coffey and Delaney Hollenback here in Atlanta when Wake Forest and Gebbia were here and when you hear them talk about their time at Marist and coach it really is something.
For me I am lucky enough to call coach a friend - not exactly sure when it happened seeing as I live in Atlanta - but through years it did. Maybe taking him to TPC golf course down here helped. It didn’t take long before our conversations were about more than basketball.
To emphasize the type of person coach is - my son started to collect sports memorabilia about a year and a half ago and since then coach has be a guide to him through the right way and wrong way. They trade cards, helmets etc. - my son always getting the better of the deal.
Like his teams he is so so unselfish, never puts himself first. Looking forward to some more rounds of golf and continued conversations down the road.

No one better. So many women over the years starting with Lourdes and then Marist he has nurtured and helped to great success on and off court. Hopefully Marist honors him in a tremendous way.

I have to imagine there will be a "Brian Giorgis Court at McCann Arena" dedication night coming, hopefully next season. Court needs re-surfacing anyway.

TM and the bean-counters in Administration at least own him that much. (Especially after ignoring most of the things he requested to compete with the likes of QU and Fairfield)

TM did actually cite “staying under budget” on his (to be fair) long list of things to praise Coach for 🙂

BG did say he's "retiring from coaching", but he didn't say anything about "retiring from Marist", did he? BG for AD, anyone?

Really? TM the visionary. And a complete embarrassment to the college. He is the direct opposite of BG Yes, really. He gave a little chuckle afterwards, and most of the speakers did mix a joke or two in with the praise, but he did say it.
