Some of these players in the portal will definitely go on to better mid majors ,,majors and even laterals to comparative mid majors ..but also as evidence of some Marist transfers in the last ten years ..some will go down to D2 or even D3 ..Theres a reason some of these transfers in the portal didn't get much time on the teams they were on .

Student support seems to be on life support at most for the MAAC schools. If that wains further what is the incentive for the schools to further invest in their sports programs? Really, with all the competing priorities that exist at a college or university why would admins decide to do more than the bare minimum about something their biggest internal stakeholder group shows minimal interest in? I doubt MAAC admins have a passionate interest in running a farm club for the next level up college sports programs. Marist sued Matt Brady for doing the same thing. No? Now they are going to go out of their way to do it to themselves? It’s great that the athletes got restrictions on their freedom of movement lifted. Unfortunately, I think there will be fewer of them to move as time marches on. To that point though, will the students even notice the roster changes? I'm guessing they showed up for senior night because it was nationally televised and the Foxes had a 5 game win streak, not because they followed Herasme's career from his freshman year. Dunne will have to adapt and recruit the portal. If he can put together a winning team I think fans and students still come out. I'm glad if kids are homesick or want a better fit they can play immediately, but I think we're just going to see more kids transferring twice (like Byrd) instead of just once. How soon before players get two free transfers?

This transfer era is bad news. More ways for hanger ons and bad actors to worm their way into these kids' lives. "You should be playing at XYZ high major. Quit wasting your time at this school."
And then what happens when things don't pan out? Moreover, it's going to get harder to care about this sport if there's a new roster every year.
Good luck Ricardo. You'll need it.

Hopefully he tests the waters and comes back like Ndefo did, not holding my breath though. It's getting to the point where you have to recruit solid MAAC-average players that develop like Herasme, Cooley, a JUCO like Bell. Then round out the team with grad/upperclassmen transfers like Jose Perez and Ant Nelson. The Masiello model is going to spread through the MAAC. Not so fun to follow as a fan. Then they can all ride the benches and say they got a free ride at a big time program. Give them what they want until they choke

Well they're leave big programs as well for sitting the bench or for whatever reason ..and don't fool yourself coaches like the one At Cleveland State ..probably St. Peters as well dont have undying allegiance to programs either ..they get success and they move on ..just an adjustment we all have to make .I worried a lot about that with Dunne if he had really turned the program around , he would have gotten coaching offers ..but i think he'll adjust and pick up a few transfers ..

Don’t let the door hit you in the ass. Good luck, I hope he doesn’t come back and rots on a bench somewhere in a big program [ He wasn't dominating the MAAC, so maybe he transfers to a higher program as a reserve. That's the role the MAAC transfers seem to fill, bench depth at better programs. You'd think they'd hang around for the playing time.

I hope he gets what he’s looking for. Was there anything to indicate that he was a negative influence on the program or something?

I typically only blast transfers who bad mouth, or use negative innuendo about the program on way out. As long as these players leave quietly, hard for me to blast them with current system

ultimately, at all levels, the impact of the portal will be to destroy the "cycle of life" model of mid-major leagues, where you're on the wheel between up and down seasons. Now you'll either always be good or always suck. Get caught on the wrong side of that divide, as Marist has, and there is truly no way out anymore.

I’m just waiting for the “comings” part of this thread - I got to believe this is his plan since all Dunne has recruited for 2022 is a project at best

Plenty of playing time for 3's, 4's and 5's. You can ride the wood at a big school or become legends like the St. Peter's kids.

You would think it's about getting a good degree at a school you like. None of these guys are pro players. Europe at best. I understand the guys that have gotten their degrees. They can start a new graduate program. The rest are a joke.. I understand if you were getting no playing time.

So we have ..those that have their degrees ..lack of playing time ...(that is primary i think )..The extra covid year has muddled things up a bit ..;;Desire for NBA, G league or upper level Europe teams by having more playing time and more exposure ..Ability to sell Name and likeness too and profit off themselves now ...change of coach.. if fired or left to another team on own.. opens players to a quick transfer without sitting out a year..Just a lot of factors ...one we haven't talked about is that some teams have mass exodus's ,,thats when u have to scratch your head and say whats going on here ? we're not there ...yet ..
