Changing threads per Oldfox suggestion: With St. Peter's reaching the finals, time for a Dunne vs his replacement Shaneen Halloway comparison Halloway: MAAC tournament record is currently 5-2 with 1 game remaining Dunne: MAAC tournament record is 0-4 This one was surprising and completed the dispelling of Dunne as a quality coach. Dunne's overall MAAC tournament record of 9-15 with 11 seasons of 1st game loses. Looking at it another way of his 16 seasons, his team won at least 1 game in a grand total of 5 years. Looking at MAAC regular season records Halloway: 44–32 (.579) Dunne: 32–44 (.421) Dunne's record while coach of St. Peters for 12 seasons. MAAC record 92–132 (.411) with the winning % almost identical to his Marist % i'll go back to the Red Fox page on Dunne ..its all there , he's pretty accomplished ..u can't argue with a Big Dance berth ..CIT championship ...i know thats not as big a deal ..but prior to Marist ..overachieving in the Maac TOURMANMENT . also shaheen still has to get a ticket to the dance ..he has a great team ..Did he recruit Ndefo or was it Dunne ..that kid was fantastic yesterday .. i

My favorite candidate at the time was Rob Jones from Norfolk State. Local guy, with local ties who has dominated his conference. Playing for his third straight ncaa tournament appearance today. Plus has marist ever had a black coach? Other strong candidates I remember - Bashir Mason, who has done pretty well outside of the NEC championship debacle. Pat Belein who would have been a disaster. Pecora who would have been completely uninspiring. Was Grasso ever rumored to be a candidate? Who were some other rumored names from the dunne hiring cycle you guys remember and how would that have looked in hindsight

I was going to say Chuck Martin but man, I never knew he was Puerto Rican and that "Chuck" was an anglicization of his nickname "Che." His real name is Jose Luis Martin (correctly pronounced mar-TEEN with the diacritical mark over the I.)
Someone should absolutely hire Rob Jones for a bigger job. Mason I got the feeling was not really going to take the job and just wanted to renegotiate with Wagner.

I dont think the Dunne hire was bad for what we needed at time. But now that the competitiveness and talent level has gotten better, Is he guy to get them to next level? He needs to keep these kids, esoecially Ituka and build. If Ituka leaves, we are spinning wheels for a few years

Dunne does bring a baseline level of competency that they desperately needed post Maker. But yeah, seems like he can get you to the middle of the pack then it’s flip a coin in the maac tournament. Administrators are probably satisfied with that though

I dont think TM's strategy of avoiding post season competition so the coaching staff can concentrate on recruiting is working. Just sayin.

Thanks for the memories, Tim Murray. But it's time for the next era.
New president, new athletic director. And hopefully a newfound priority placed on the basketball team's success.

Do you know something I don’t?
Seems to me TM (and Parity) are only going out on their terms; ie. feet first.

Does St. Peters success make this even more needed, or am I being too reactionary?

I believe Marist is going to get about an extra 100,000 a year for next 6 years because if St. Peters success. Lets put that into assistant head coach salaries in mbb to help entice a good recruiting assistant.

Weekend WSJ reported that Holloway makes $266,000, an amount you'd think Marist could/would pay. He replaced Dunne, so he was available when Marist was looking. He's most likely leaving SPU, but they're in the sweet 16.
