Maybe Jao should read this article about Aaron Estrada. www.thehofstrachronicle.com/category/sports/2022/2/16/aaron-estrada-leading-hofstra-to-the-caa-tournament?format=ampHere is the key excerpt from this article, relative to Jao: He (Estrada) didn’t stay in his home state for long, though, as he transferred to the University of Oregon for his sophomore campaign. He was heavily recruited by Dana Altman’s coaching staff, but the transfer was largely inspired by Estrada’s aspirations of playing basketball on a bigger stage. “What I didn’t know is, I always thought that to get your name out there you had to be playing for the higher [level] schools,” Estrada said. “I got caught up into that, really, so that was one of the big reasons why I left St. Peter’s because I got caught up in my head … People were telling me, ‘You’re better than this school, you need to be playing [at a] high-major [school] if you want to go to the NBA,’ so I was listening to that and taking it in.” The success he found at Saint Peter’s wasn’t so easily replicated in Eugene, Oregon, as Estrada received minimal playing time with the higher-profile Ducks. Tallying just 28 points across his nine appearances for Oregon, and with the coach most involved in his recruitment to the school now departed from the program, Estrada decided it was time for yet another change heading into his junior year.

Luckily for Estrada, he had the fortune to be able to transfer out of Oregon and play immediately this year. That option will not be available to Jao, so if he makes the same mistake, it will not be easy to find a good way out, as I believe he will have to sit out a year if he wants to transfer again. They should have a "my bad" option that allows you to go back to your old team and not have to sit out a year.

The coaches always promise u playing time ..and i'm sure Dunne does too to his recruits . but honestly until u get that player there u just don't know how they will pan out . what they really give u is an honest chance to compete for a spot .As i've mentioned before there were plenty of ex Marist players that made what i would call lateral moves to mid majors that became successful ..If Jao were to go and become successful i would say that he would have to make a lateral move to a mid major ..I don't think he could make it in the power conferences unless its a very weak team .Pickett was a different story ..the guy has what he needs to go far except his shooting is not what it needs to be ,,if he could ever correct that he could go far ..but as of now he'll have an excellent european career ..Having said all this ,..this is the perect fit for Jao ..team ,,conference ..coach ..no reason for him to think about leaving ..

Ricardo Wright was first team all rookie last year and he stayed. Why are we all assuming Jao will leave? He seems happy and we’re winning

I'm hoping he stays at least 1 more year so that we can see how he, Wright and Harris do together with a year all together under their belts. The one game he struggled in that I remember this year was against Fairfield at McCann, where he was 4-14 on FGs and scored only 9 points. He was guarded mostly that day by Allan Jean-Rose, who is taller and wiry-strong and just as fast and athletic as Jao. When Jao has done well this year, he was either stronger than his defender or quicker or both, but he met his match against Jean-Rose that day. If he transfers up, just about every team will have guys who can match his strength and his quickness, possibly making his 4-14 seem like the norm instead of the oddity.

He seems happy and we’re winning I don't think we should look at it from a is Jao happy angle. Yes, he seems happy as does the team. I think you should look more at a just plain bigger and better opportunity angle. If a Maryland, Virginia, VaTech or somebody of that level comes knocking on his door and woooing him to join them angle. Which might be entirely possible. Even a James Madison, George Mason or VCU. He's happy here sure, but couldn't he be even happier there? Big arenas, tons of fans, and big games every night. I hope he stays and I certainly want him to. But he's won every maac rookie of the week award, he's going to win maac rookie of the year and I think we just have to be prepared that when we have good, young players with the current rules system that they may leave for a bigger opportunity. And I can't blame them at all.

On Jao, forget MD (sh*&^t show), I'd be concerned about Towson. 45 minutes from home. Just won the CAA regular season title. Losing four senior Guards (6-3 to 6-4) two of which have serious minutes and points.

Why leave a place you csn end up a legend as your alma mater and take a chance starting over at a team that is not a top 40 tyoe program?

Blame the NCAA for making so easy There is a team i follow where a player came in this year and before the season started it was understood that he would only be staying 1 year then would transfer at years end and it was agreed upon by coach and player . Just shows how things have changed and how teams and coaches have to adapt accordingly
