I give us a 5% chance of retaining him past this season im just wondering why you think he'll leave ,,do u think he'll leave because the program isn't as succesful as he wants ,that he thinks he can play in a major conference , or that he thinks he is more likely to land a NIL deal somewhere else . i just don't see a valid reason for him to leave unless this team tanks ..

Because he is that good and the NCAA has set up the system to allow BCS coaches to recruit college kids. It is one thing to scout a HS kid seeing the potential - but when you see a Mid Major kid blowing it up why not go after him? He can play right away - and there has to be an attraction to playing in a higher level - especially if they have fans.
I promise you that one of his past coaches is whispering in his ear, I promise you that bigger schools are going through that coach as a back channel. Dunne will have to convince him that the grass isn't greener elsewhere and the problem is there are too many schools out there where the grass IS greener. Imagine a GT, VCU, or a Xavier type school comes knocking - he will be gone.

We should also not burn bridges if he leaves. Could always transfer back if he doesnt like the new situation.

I don't know if teams can even inquire about his availablity legally,, doesn't mean say his aau coach gets some feelers from other teams ..once he would declare to transfer obviously he would get a lot of interest ..From what i understand Murray wouldn't allow players to contact other teams unless they first declare for a transfer ..that is not the case with all directors as most will let the player feel out the market before a decision ..Players like Hart, Lewis and Parker had success here and stayed although i think Jao is better than all of them ..and the team now is better than the teams those guys played on .

no teams can not contact the player - but they can talk to their former AAU coach all day long and that AAU coach can talk to player all day long. Good luck proving that there was tampering

We should also not burn bridges if he leaves. Could always transfer back if he doesnt like the new situation. Parting amicably is fine. Just don’t think he would transfer “down” when he would be required to sit a year. Plus it seems that those who transfer back are doing it using the freebie COVID year of eligibility post graduation.

See Weimar on the WBB side at BU or Pickett at Penn State.

Not a great history for MAAC ROYs. Have to go all the way back to Hart to find someone who used all their eligibility at the same school.
13-14 Khalid Hart - played all four years at Marist
14-15 - Casimir played 3 years at Iona and used RS year from injury to grad transfer to FGCU
15-16 - Seaborn played 3 years at Monmouth before trying to transfer/left the team, ended up not playing a 4th season
16-17 - Dixon wins and then transfers from QU. Sits a year at St. John's, then struggles the following year. Decides to transfer mid-season. Ends up at Grand Canyon and played two years there. Now using his COVID year to play at Idaho
17-18 - Molson wins, stays for his sophomore year, but then leaves Canisius after that. Sat a year at Seton Hall. Then has tough first season playing for the Pirates. Transfers, and is now starting for James Madison and playing in front of 4,000 fans in a brand new arena.
18-19 - Pickett wins, played 3 years at Siena before transferring to Penn State
19-20 - Estrada wins, transfers to Oregon for his Sophomore year. Has a tough season, transfers back down to Hofstra and is starring for one of the top teams in the CAA
20-21 - Junior Joseph wins and returned for his Sophomore year at Iona

Leo THAT is what Dunne needs to sell and hope he listens - but to your point a JMU comes at him with new arena AND a real college basketball atmosphere, along with fact that you aren’t making a colossal leap to a BCS school why wouldn’t you jump ship.

I think you need to sell the fact the grass isn't always greener. Maybe he appreciates that Dunne actually offered him. Maybe he really likes his teammates like Harris and Wright who will be there for 3 years with him. Who knows what will happen after this year, but I'm just enjoying him playing right now.
But Jao if you read this, please stay!

As an undergraduate the first time is the no sit transfer. I believe the no sit grad student rule was left intact.
