This I don't and won't blame them for. Limit the vectors, essential personnel only. Fans are the last thing I would be concerned with at themoment. I don’t agree. The problem is hysteria has clouded sound, rational judgement, hence, the reason for such a mess. I’m sorry, outdoor event, mask, 2 vaccines, social distancing...that is more than enough...

they don't have the ability to enforce the mask and social distancing and I certainly don't trust the spectators to adhere to it. So, nope, not happening.

I’m pleasantly surprised they are allowing community members other than those with official college business on campus at all.

You sir, are just a small part of the engine that perpetuates the hysteria. Don’t get me wrong, I have a healthy respect for Covid, but lets start to think like rational human beings...

Womens softball gets swept losing for games in a row to Canisius 7-0, 7-0, 7-0, 7-0 - at least that is how it looks in the books

Why is this treated differently from basketball and lacrosse?

this appears to be a travel issue. I don't think they're allowed to stay overnight ANYWHERE, which would of course nix going to Buffalo. Instead they've re-scheduled the DHs at Fairfield for tomorrow and Thursday, which they can do without a hotel stay. EDIT: That's exactly what it is, per Canisius: gogriffs.com/news/2021/4/19/softball-series-vs-marist-called-off.aspxThe forfeits are a terrible look, of course, but Marist is racking those up by the dozen this semester. If that continues, I think baseball may have to forfeit half the Rider and half the Monmouth sets next week. Men's lax is finally back tomorrow night at Tenney against Quinnipiac. Women's lax was supposed to play Niagara at home, but I guess it's now Siena on the road. Man, I dunno anymore. Men's tennis got the 4 seed in the MAAC tournament (which means a quick out to Monmouth) but women's tennis got shafted out of the field by not getting the opportunity to clobber Rider and Monmouth. Water polo, I'm not sure they're even getting in the pool this season. Everything on the schedule is either "postponed" or "TBA."

This is apalling. So this actually looks worse than it is tbh. Agreed that the optics totally suck. Because the standings are based only on wins and not percentage, losses don't matter. It's the same as a bye. Furthermore, since 4 games vs Fairfield that weren't going to get played were put back on the schedule to replace the Canisius series, it ends up no blood for Marist. Canisius gets a windfall of 4 wins, Fairfield also benefits with the opportunity at up to 4 wins they didn't think they would get. The other 8 teams aren't really hurt; at least I don't think it will be the difference in anyone qualifying or not for the MAAC tournament.

Few if any other schools have restricted their student athletes like marist has. It also could appear that marist showed a lot more respect for their basketball athletes then they have for the other sports.

During the basketball season, the numbers didn't get as bad as they did during the spring which was mainly aided by students not being on campus.
It's not as simple as "let the athletes play". When you are restricting the entire student body from doing activities, you can't rationalize letting the student athletes do things while the other students cannot do the same thing. Marist is first an institution and needs to consider all it's student athletes

I feel like Yankee didn't read what I wrote and just went off on the rant he already had cooking up in his mind. Standard procedure unfortunately.

So the same schools that paused repeatedly during basketball season when only basketball players were on campus have found a way to keep the infection rate low enough to play when students are back on campus? Seems unlikely to me. Has Marist been unable to tamp down the virus? Maybe. They are at code yellow today which describes conditions as Incidents of cases increasing and transmission controlled or is Marist just the MAAC outlier when it comes to permitting student activities because of the nature of their COVID policy? Heck even under code green campus spaces are restricted to 50% of capacity. There is no “code back to normal” on the dashboard. I see us having these same discussions about athletics at Marist until the CDC/NYS Health Department calls the pandemic done in the USA/NYS.

Baseball just scored 14 runs in the 4th inning against Siena. I think this was good strategy and they should try to do that. Please pay me for my baseball analysis.
