Other teams in the MAAC lost guys too. I think Rider was decimated with transfers.. Siena lost Burns. They have Young as their main inside guy.. Are their bigs better than Enoh and JJ? As long as we recruit bigs for 21, we're in good shape. That's why getting Wright might have been a good move if he's a player. Focus on getting good bigs for 21. The rest of the team is set. Win some games so guys will come.
Enoh has to be a huge upgrade. Sjoberg only looked to score in one game. As long as Byrd and Sullivan hit the ground running, Marist will be much better. How can't they be? They have just about everybody back. It's not like any team in the MAAC dominated them...I'm also making the assumption that Bell, Herasme, Sagl, and Cubbage give us what we should expect. What teams are you scared of? Iona has a whole new team.. They will take a while.

The MAAC has always been a guard dominated league. Most teams have 3 guards on the floor. Everyone is fighting for 2nd place. St. Peter's just lost their 7' 4 star. I think Dunne knows whats he's doing.

I completely don't understand this signing at all. We have enough guards already, we needed to add depth to the front court for the future. It's not just about next season even. You go into the following season with Enoh up front and nothing else. Considering I have yet to see this staff recruit a young, big man and with no other known scholarships available this year, I'm definitely very concerned we aren't getting any better or competitive any time soon.

Iona has a whole new team.. They will take a while. Siena unfortunately will be fine up front. They addressed their up front needs well. Added two freshmen(6'6 220 and 6'8 but skinny) then added transfer from Rhode Island who's 6'7 210, 6'10 JUCO center, and transfer from Pepperdine who's 6"8 250. If the two transfers are granted eligibility immediately like people think may happen they are loaded. I agree Iona may take a while to gel but with Pitino and the talent they've brought in they can likely play with anyone in the MAAC. You might see some odd losses here or there but I expect them to be in the upper echelon of the league by year end. It's Iona and they seem to handle talent turnover better then everyone. I don't disagree with you that Marist may improve but is 10-15 wins the level of improvement we want at this point? Especially when you then lose 2/3's of your frontcourt for the following year. I think my disappointment with this class is I wanted to see our two needs addressed(we did address one very well IMO) for next year and the future. We left one wide open and with all these guards searching for playing time I'm worried we lose someone else now and were just back to where we were in the backcourt even in a year. If Sagl or St. Furcy lose time, or one of these three freshmen don't get time they were hoping after year one we haven't really progressed any. It's just turnover. Yes, you can win in the MAAC with a four guard lineup but I just don't see it as a consistent way to do so. So much less of a margin for error in my opinion. I wanted to see the ability to do so but also the ability to adjust and not use a four guard rotation. I don't see the real ability to do so for next year, or perhaps going forward.

Beyond that I'd be surprised. Pleasantly so and I hope it comes. I just don't know if I see a roster as constructed that can do more then that.

I don't think it's fair to say you "hate" this recruiting class. We had two glaring holes: ball handlers and big men.
We no longer have a hole in our backcourt. We have some exciting, dare I even say some of the best talent we've had in a long, long time there.
But..... we still need big bodies. There is no excuse for that, but it doesn't mean Dunne is done. It's not like they are ignoring it, they just haven't found our guy/guys yet. We're not an attractive draw if you look at our body of work. But now with guards set for years to come, the recruiting focus will and HAS to move toward big men. I think that will help, and if a talented big man realizes our roster construction, I think we become very attractive. We'll see.

I would rather many players with talent at similar positions than just signing a big guy stiff. Let the guards battle it out and best get PT. A legitimate argument could have been to hold onto the scholly. But, the kid seems to have talent. Could work out very well,

That's what I was thinking flyingdutchman. My main point was if you couldn't land bigs that meet your needs, get the guards/wings in place. They should be set in the backcourt for 3-4 yrs. Yes, now it's imperative to get bigs.
With Siena, I think the JUCO center has 1 yr of eligibility. I think he's eligible the in 21-22. He looks ok. Nothing dominant. They'll be good.
I hope bigs are attracted. Let's hope. If the guards'wings provide some excitement, bigs may want to join the party. I know one thing. Byrd and Sullivan are light yrs quicker than anything we've seen in a while. And one thing that's been mentioned with all of the recent signings. They all seem to have the ability to play big. At least not shy away. Toughness and effort wins the loose ball battles.

Wright and his teammates in action. He is number 3 in green. They needed to work on their defense. LOL
A few sites list his as 6'4". Doesn't look that tall. Verbal Commits lists him at 6'2".

His Twitter bio lists himself at 6'4". Similar question with Cooley, VC shows him at 180 lbs, Twitter was showing 200.
I was hoping for a big, but playing devils advocate, I don't think Wague or Venning (as freshmen) would be better than Jones or Enoh next year. This team needs wins ASAP, so they'd be battling for minimal PT. We really weren't bullied last year in the MAAC, except maybe Rider...and that was more from their guards and wings.
Hopefully they can go to Chimezie, Biyengui, a JUCO or a transfer with the chance to play 15+ minutes right away and hope that swings things in their favor.

A legitimate argument could have been to hold onto the scholly. But, the kid seems to have talent. Could work out very well, I would have preferred they held onto the scholarship for a transfer or JUCO. Obviously the bigs they were going after weren't coming. Not getting Mack was a killer. The rest of the class is solid and better, IMO. Byrd and Sullivan are A type guys for Marist. Cooley comes in with a "college-ready" body and a good set of skills for a wing in the MAAC. I love the Jay Bowie comparison and how often does Marist get wings/forwards with "college-ready" bodies? I guess Wright is who they came up with to recruit over St. Furcy.

Wright looks like he could use a year to bulk up. Maybe he redshirts? Pure speculation.
