I wonder if you actually HAVE to be in portal as a grad student (yes it lets others know you are open but ...)

For some reason, I think you need to be for eligibility tracking purposes but I could be wrong.

Some other important MAAC kids that are in the portal that I don't think I previously knew about: Chardonnay Hartley - Niagara Lexa, Amalia, Thrash - Canisius Those 3 from Canisius plus another Griff named Adrien LaMora are also all following Sahar to EMU. Good grief, is she a basketball coach or a cult leader?

Quinnipiac addition: 6'2 forward Caranda Perea, a grad transfer from Tulsa. Played her freshman year at George Washington, then two years at Temple and her senior year at Tulsa. Serviceable at Temple but playing time really fell off for a better team (Tulsa).

Staff doing anything, making any progress?

We know the staff is doing SOMETHING, making progress is another matter. I know they have had kids on campus - some they offered others they didn't. They need the right fit.
We are coming off the worst season in last 20 years and lost arguably the top 2 players - so we are selling playing time. We have no NIL $ - NOTHING - most schools at this point have something.
Look no further then the MAAC men to see what we have been relegated to:
The transfers are from places like: Omaha, St. Thomas Aquinas, Northern Colorado, Hillsborough CC, Adelphi (D2), Connecticut College (D3), Franklin Pierce (D2), Clarion (D2), Cal Poly, UC Riverside, Winona State (D2),Miami Dade CC, Pratt CC, Houston Christian, Wilmington (D2)
The MAAC is nothing more than an after thought - we have no way to keep good players and I PROMISE you Collins & Pacarelli will be in portal after next year.
Yankee you think I was negative last year? If I'm going year to year - we will need a miracle from one of our teams - again to me the men absolutely failed last year.

Do peer schools on the women's side (MAAC, NEC, America East) really have NIL in any meaningful way? And would the money be going anywhere past the top few players?
I'd think academics, campus, playing time, and fan attendance should be enough to recruit solid MAAC starters to at least be middle of the pack on the women's side.

I hope you're right Leo - but I don't see it (on either side) - we need to find that D2 kid who will shock the world. There will never be another Jaroz or Gilmer type transfer again

Yankee you think I was negative last year? If I'm going year to year - we will need a miracle from one of our teams - again to me the men absolutely failed last year. Why so negative? It’s early. The portal isn’t even closed yet. It stands to reason that the D1 guys and gals are in a better position to be choosy about a landing spot than the JUCO/D2/D3 players. I’m not sure the MAAC’s appeal is a dire as you think. In addition to the schools you’ve listed players from the following schools have transferred to the MAAC: Lafayette, Loyola, MD. St. Joes, Northern Colorado, UCF, Hofstra x2, Syracuse and UAlbany. The players from the rest of the schools are basically JUCO’s. If this was 5 years ago and the MAAC had that many JUCO’s nobody would make a peep. Some would even think it would be an improvement over the typical high school senior recruit. BTW: Miami-Dade CC has approximately 90,000 credit students. I bet their mbb and wbb would give some MAAC teams a good game. Who the heck knows why Marist is dragging its feet on NIL. Regardless, the track record in the MAAC for NIL is pretty much abysmal. It may help you get a kid, but if the player is any good they’re leaving regardless. The MAAC school collectives can’t match what the bigger schools collectives can offer. I’m sure I’ve posted this before but as far as I can determine by reading the Siena board every player identified as receiving NIL left the team the next season. Selimovic transferred to Fairfield and Eley and Durugordon are in the portal. Similar situation at Iona. It’s early, but it seems NIL at our level gets the collective/school one year before they are better-dealed. The jury is out regarding it being a retention tool for the MAAC. I guess that’s okay if you can live with that being the case, but that’s a tough fund raising pitch. Honestly, I think the Men’s staff has done a good job recruiting going back to Ituka and Wright then following it up with the likes of Gardner, Pascarelli and Collins. I also think the staff did a great job coming back from the 8 player exodus two years ago. One miracle final appearance then adding 4 very good MAAC players this past year adding 5 wins overall and doubling their win total in the MAAC. I’m confident they will find player to fill the open roles on this years team. The women’s program is at a crossroads. Let’s face it. The recruiting going back 4-5 years has gotten progressively worse. They need to show me they can recruit D1 talent. I wanted to hate the guy featured in this article. After reading it a couple of times got where I could begrudgingly accept that college athletics has to change. The NCAA and the schools have to decide whether to keep losing in court or, alternatively, negotiate a new structure for college athletics where the have’s and have nots can continue to coexist when labor deserves to be paid. In response to Oldfox -
Just treat all athletes as professionals - when recruiting offer minimum of a 2 year contract with buyout clause, if they are open to 4 year contract great.

Why so negative lol - 8 , 12, 6 wins last 3 years. Fair enough. However, the seeds for those records were sown with subpar recruiting long before unlimited transfers and NIL became a thing. If Fisher doesn’t transfer to join Zaria the last D1 quality PG Marist recruited was Allie Best.

If all pretense of amateurism/student athlete gets stripped away in the courts your contract ideas make perfect sense. It’s the way of doing business with labor in all the other professional sports leagues.
