Volleyball (the preseason favorite) falls in opening round. Interested to see who used their COVID year.

Every once in a while people here would long for Dave Magarity. Well, he’s back and coaching volleyball.

3 years in a row losing the 1st round as the higher seed every time. Inexplicable.

3 years in a row losing the 1st round as the higher seed every time. Inexplicable. The past two flameouts were the most egregious. POY and another first teamer this season. Great 5th year player last year. Immediate future doesn’t look very bright. No All-MAAC player on 2nd, 3rd or Rookie teams.

On the other hand others do the smart work to keep the winning going……FF loses the “Brian Giorgis” of MAAC Volleyball but goes out and finds Nancy Somera at DIII volleyball power Johnson and Wales. However prior to J&W Somera was an assistant for 8 years at Southern Cal, Head Coach at Oregon including an NCAA berth, and Head Coach at South Carolina.

FF wins the MAAC Volleyball Championship 3-1 over Quinny. Anyone but Q is as good a non-Foxes outcome as one can want. When the Cup standings are updated through the fall, Marist will be 5th in men, 7th in women and 6th overall. Long way to go but once again a Cup looks like a major longshot.

Spring sports starting to drift closer, water polo and tennis begin this weekend. Water polo picked 3rd in the MAAC, as was men's tennis. Looks like another long rebuilding year for women's tennis, predicted 6th of 7 in the league.
I was hoping against hope that volleyball would be able to keep the band together for one last ride next fall, but MAAC Player of the Year Sasha van der Merwe has announced her grad transfer to FGCU. Can't fault anyone for spending a year or so in Fort Myers on a perennial NCAA tournament team. Haven't heard about Newblatt or the other seniors.
EDIT: Newblatt--> Bowling Green. Looking like the window is shut and no MAAC tournament success at all to show for it. What a bummer.

Men's lacrosse picked 2nd in the MAAC preseason poll, only 1 point behind Siena, with 4 first place votes from the other coaches - but zero All-MAAC selections? They're gonna basically tie for 1st without any good players?
Season opener 2/10 at home against Bucknell.

Was surprised to see them picked that high. We so senior heavy last year. Maybe MAAC coaches respect Keegan's ability to develop players?

www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=22643&src=hmrepMAAC baseball preview tabs shortstop Bayram Hot as MAAC Player of the Year and #1 draft prospect in the league for 2025. Holy Cross grad transfer pitcher Nate Chudy is seen as a top 10 MAAC draft prospect for 2024. If the pitching staff is healthier than last year the Foxes might actually turn out pretty good, apparently. Here's hoping.
