What’s next Ohio State cutting football?
Duke cutting MBB?
I didn’t think so.
Those are the professional sports.

the official vote and announcement will be on Monday, but the chancellor of the Vermont State College System has recommended the immediate closure of both campuses (Johnson and Lyndon) of the recently merged Northern Vermont University as well as the residential Randolph campus of Vermont Tech. Tech's satellite campus in the Burlington suburbs will stay open and take on some but not all of Randolph's programming. The resources of NVU-Johnson and NVU-Lyndon are to be redirected to Castleton University, which would become the only fully 4-year university in the system.
Johnson and Lyndon are/were NCAA Division III; Vermont Tech only had 8 sports and was a member of the USCAA.

Division II Urbana University (Urbana, Ohio) is closing at the end of the semester. Owned and operated since 2014 by Franklin University, Franklin no longer has the ability to subsidize UU's operations. They had 17 varsity sports including football with 2 new teams slated to start in 2020-21.

He still says the system is unsustainable without some form of consolidation. Adding today that Green Bay, one of WBB's 2019-20 OOC opponents, has dropped men's and women's tennis. Oh yeah, and furloughing 227 employees.

last week Sonoma State, a D2 in Northern California, pulled the plug on both tennis teams and women's water polo. Only affected a grand total of about 20 students and none of the 3 sports had existed at the school for more than 17 seasons, but still a bummer. Marist used to play SSU in water polo from time to time when they would travel out there, including a 14-3 win over the Seawolves in January 2019.
list updated.

LIU announced they're adding men's ice hockey, so at least someone is swimming upstream with some good news! Good for them.

Holy Family College (Manitowoc, Wis.) is closing down this summer. Sports-wise they were a dual member of the NAIA and USCAA. The school was actually known as Silver Lake College for nearly 50 years before changing its name just last September.
Note this is not the D2 school in Philadelphia that WBB played in an exhibition game a couple years ago, that's Holy Family University.

Florida Tech (NCAA Division II) drops football. Despite only fielding a team for 7 seasons, the Panthers made the NCAA playoffs twice (2016, 2018).

an entire NCAA Division II league, the CCAA, has called off fall sports already. All of its members (besides UCSD, which is moving to Division I on July 1) are in the California State University System, which will be online only for the fall semester. goccaa.org/news/2020/5/12/general-ccaa-suspends-ncaa-competition-for-fall-2020.aspxA few D1 conferences such as the Big South and Big Sky have altered certain sport schedules and conference tournament sizes, but none so dramatic as the MAC which will be axing its conference tournaments in 9 sports for the next 4 years and cutting the hoops tourney fields from 12 teams to 8. The MAAC posted a story on its website about principles and procedures for returning to play, but has yet to say anything concrete.

Very hard for me to see how fall sports proceed, especially ones that involve a lot of travel like football. The drumroll of schools maintaining online education for the fall is only going to increase and once schools in the northeast start doing it, I imagine Marist/the MAAC will go that route as well. I think some of the smaller schools are going to try to hold out as long as they can though because that lack of financial income could make them go under entirely.
