This is disappointing. Fairfield just moved into the favorite spot.

I believe a Junior transfer with one year of eligibility left can play right away. PJ article Junior College transfer is eligible immediately. Transfers without NCAA hardship waiver must sit for a year. College Grad with eligibility remaining can transfer without sitting out when enrolled in a grad program I.e. Val Driscoll. Graduated from Michigan, immediately eligible at Quinny.

The Real Motar to the mix here was Megan Gebbia. You can look back to every year since she has been gone, the team has shown some form or another of weakening. Kudos to Megan for taking an opportunity when it came, however you can see that things are not the same anymore. Not many Ohio names on the team now and to me that shows tenfold. What ever is going on now is just one more brick falling out of the wall. I hope Coach Giorgis and his Assistants can pull this back together again. BTW the AU WBB Team did quite well for themselves this year.

Gebbia was special there is no doubt about that - she was the one the girls turned to, she was another HC with Brian. I agree with the OH aspect - those girls sure seem tougher then the NH kids. He might need to look at his staff and bring in someone who can be that buffer - someone not afraid to talk beck to him. This current staff can recruit, scout, but something is missing.

What the actually hell?! Blaise totally jumped ship! Why?! Was it lose to Quinnipiac? That fact that we didn't get into the NCAA tourney? What about the loss to Temple, a superior team that made it to the WNIT semis? What the hell is her excuse to leave the most productive mid-major women's program in the 2000's?. She made her way to the 1,000 Point pantheon at Marist a month ago and stabs us in the back; all because we didn't win the accolades we're used to winning. And Lai "didn't like the system"? The same system of fundamentals and teamwork that made you want to come here three years ago? And who would've thought Foggarty was weak enough to cave in and leave all in the name of friendship. Over the years, Brian hardly showed any ill will towards players that transferred. These three however really drove a knife right in his back. In the PoJo, he says "We have to get going and find people that want the Marist experience and want to be here and want the Marist degree." Here, he pretty much sums up the feeling of betrayal these three laid upon Marist College and her fans. If that's the way they feel, then good riddance to the three of them.
Birchmeier's forgiven though. All college freshies get homesick alot; it's understandable. Back in Michigan, she has a shot at WMU, CMU, and Detroit Mercy; as they're all within 1.5 hours from Corunna. I don't thinks she's UM or MSU good, but still good nonetheless. Only time will tell.

I agree that Gebbia was a huge asset but no idea how you find that dynamic again. The is so much pressure on Clement & Baab in my opinion - they are our future along with the incoming class (which again is a great class and will probably get better) While Coffey is integral for leading this years team it is Clement & Baab that need to really really look at each other and say we can do this we are going to be the ones who get Marist back to the NCAA's - i hope there is a fire and determination in both of them.
We do not have a Jr class (Rosales just do not know about her) so next year might be rough so our current freshman need to have the strength to see it through and not quit like Blais (yeah i'm saying that she quit). They have a great class coming in behind them so they need to embrace that - not worry about living up to other teams just worry about leaving their mark. We glimpses of an All-MAAC type player in Clement this year and you can bet she will not be happy with this years 3 point avg (Dulin .179 from 3 as a Fr.), Baab has the tools to be another Gang/Beynnon.
What cant happen is the community bailing on these women - they deserve more support now then before!!!

This current staff can recruit, scout, but something is missing. This is why the "program review" that Homebody suggested and I agreed with is so important IMHO. Find it. Fix it. Move on.

I wrote this a few years ago about the culture of the program and one of the reasons it was so successful was that each and every player loved being around each other - they hung out together away from the court not because they had to or were told to but because they genuinely wanted to. (It was a dynamic I experienced at Marist playing soccer - 25 years later we still can get 30-40 of us together with easy and we all still talk teach other all the time - this is what i had always seen with the sorority that was Marist Women's basketball)
That seems to be missing - I know Coffey had to deal with the lose of her best friend in Hollenbeck, and not sure if Blais or Van Horn had that relationship.
Clement is so outgoing and comes off a strong loyal person - hopefully the same character resides in Baab (remember I'm making these observations from Georgia so you can take them with a grain of salt). If Clement & Baab are good friends and they can make a strong connection with the incoming freshman - then Marist will be at the top of the MAAC again very quickly. The culture is as important and the talent.

WOW. Just reading about this, obviously long after many of you.
While I am shocked by the news there has to be something we do not know. There has to be something behind the scenes that has led to such a big defection. I understand Birchmeier leaving. Fogarty I do not understand. But the ones that confuse me the most are the defections of Lai & Blais. I think there is a possibility Blais will graduate. I do not have any inside information, I just remember that she is very intelligent and I'm guessing she's graduating in 3 years. Both Lai & Blais played a lot and were important part of this years team and would have been of next years team.
So that leads me to believe there is more to this story that we'll find out later, maybe much later.

Man, thats a kick in the gut. I guess its important to remember that these are kids and kids can definitely be flakey.
Life goes on. The program will bounce back undoubtedly.
Question is... Who wins 20 games first? The men or the ladies?

I am not going to reflect on what might be wrong with the staff or culture. Giorgis has won and helped develop winners for over 3 decades in this area. Birch is a freshman, I understand that. Even the sophs, ok maybe they didn't click on campus , missed home, Blais? Complete all about me move transferring out before senior year because she was afraid they might not win. Lack of leadership with that one and hope she picks a team that losses a lot her final year. Now, I am ready to move on as lot of talent staying and coming.
