I know Siena fans don't want to hear this....but I was thinking higher That's exactly what a couple of Andy Toole fans on the Siena Board just concluded. Toole may get "better" interest after tonight.

Not as low as some thought
Marist’s tax return showed in 2009 Martin was paid a base salary of $222,443 but earned a total of $246,508.

I thought he made around 225. I think Brady's last contract put him in that neighborhood. I think 300 should be doable.. Watch.. Toole will end up at NW....

hey, long time lurker here. i really liked the list of potential hires above. so great input there. i've got one name with Marist ties that could be added to the list, Mark Prosser. Mark is a 2001 graduate and has a pretty great resume as an assistant and has a years experience as a head coach. Mark has worked for multiple head coaches in Pat Flannery at Bucknell and Mike Young at Wofford and been to 2 NCAA tournaments with each program. Bucknell even won opening round games in 2005 and 2006. I think Mark fits the mold of type of young hungry coach that can end up being a great hire

Ok I stand corrected.
But is one season at Division II really what this program needs in its next head coach?
I would like to see more HC experience in college regardless the level (I,II,III).

OK I hope the AD is thinking the same way we are. We need a guy with head coaching experience at the college level. He has to have shown a few things to make him the right guy:
-He has to havve won. I want to see league championships. I want a guy who has been taking his team to the tournament and making some noise.
-It has to be a guy who can recruit and has shown he can make a program go. I like the Williams guy but its like taking over the Duke job kids that are bright just want to go there so I am not sure if that guy can recruit.
-Has to have some DI in his past, but I really like the succesful DII or DIII head coach coming in to get us where we should be. I think with our salary structure we have to find that diamond in the rough.

Hoop Dirt just posted rumors of potential Marist candidates. Here is my assessment. Bill Carmody-Don't see coming to Marist. Will wait for a better job
Al Skinner-former coach BC. Will bring his rigid flex offense (which I like) but its not for everyone.
Jay Young-Asst. Stonybrook. Could be a good choice, could also be waiting for the stonybrook job to open
Bob Walsh-HC RIC. This guy would work like a dog to get it done. Could be a good choice.
Joe Esposito-Ops guy at Minn. Marist alum. ok success as a D2 coach. I'm sure he would work hard. who knows if he would win.
Getting back to Stephen Sauers. Some guys just don't want to be a head coach. Its a lot easier sitting in the #2 chair then calling the shots.

This search is the single most important event around this program since the 1987 NCAA game against Pitt.
Get it right.

I know... He'll get top $$ and we won't spend...Siena will pay him my god, you were the most positive guy on here for like forever, even kept supporting Martin for a couple years. Now, only a couple days in and you are giving the Marist admin no shot here to do well:).

From the Hoopdirt.com list. Jay Young, Associate Head Coach, Stony Brook, Marist Class of 1986 Experience at every level, very successful HC at DIII, and DII levels. Supervisory experience as the AHC at Stony Brook. Looks like a live one based on what we seem to be preferring. www.goseawolves.org/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/jay_young_16463.html
