It is now officially Chuck Martin's team
RJ Hall Sr. May or may not be with us next year. Back up to the back up PG. Has to play under control and work on his outside shoot.
Sam Prescott Jr. The best of the recruits so far. Has shown significant improvement in the past year. Needs to improve his ball handling and work on his outside shot. Best man on man defender on the team. Should have a very good year.
Dorvell Carter RS Jr. Has shown the coaching staff and fans that he is a keeper. He hustles and plays smart. Has good mid-range jumper and can get to the iron. Would like to see him put on a few pounds so he can be more of a factor in the paint. Good junk man. He should have a good year if he continues improvement.
Devin Price Jr. Hope he stays. He would be my #1 back up PG. He can also play the 2 so if pressed Marist could use Morton & Price to break the press. Needs to work on his ball handling and outside shooting. He did cut down on TO's in the last several games which is significant. Could use a few more pounds on his bones too.
Candon Rusin Jr. Hope he regains his shooting confidence. Seemed to be getting better the last couple games. He has a hard time creating his own shot so this is one area he need a lot of work. He must also work on his ball handling if he expects to get any PT. It take him a long time to shoot. He must improve that or expect to get shots blocked.
Jay Bowie So. Had a very good freshman year. Just ran out of gas toward the end. Now he knows what to expect and should be prepared to have a very good year. He needs to work on going to his right. He can get to the iron and has a nice outside shot. Rebounds well too. Needs to work on his overall game.
Anell Alexis So. Started to show what he is capable of. Needs to play organized basketball this off season. I mean he has to play where he MUST play with discipline and not street ball. He needs to focus and concentrate on the game and it's fundamentals. Has all the athletic skills just hope they get coordinated with his thought process and reactions on the court.
Adam Kemp RS So. If there was ever a key player the next few years it is Adam. Need him to be healthy. Need the Marist training staff to monitor his every move this off season. He can't play until 110% healed. has to work on back to the basket moves and sealing his guy off. Needs more than a hook shot. Could lose a few pounds.
Menelik Watson RS So. Has to work on his conditioning. He must continue to run and lift. Needs to lose a few pounds. Has shown some back to the basket moves but has had a hard time adapting to the American game. He has to play American hoops from now until October. Has to get tougher.
Pieter Prinsloo So. Has to learn how to play in the paint. Another foreigner who has to learn the American game. Still a project but he can be a factor if given the right program in the off season.
Isiah Morton Fr. We all expect great things from someone most of us have never seen. Must be that good old Catholic faith. If Isiah is as good as billed he should be our PG for the next 4 years. He needs to be able to shoot the three over guys 6" to 8" taller than him and take the pounding when he goes to the iron against the men of the MAAC.
Manny Thomas Fr. Don't know much other than he's another swingman, slasher. We have a few of his type of player. Hope he can go to the iron, can handle the ball and likes to rebound.
That unfilled scholarship: Fr. I agree with most that we could use a PF. A guy who is 6-7, 220 who can rebound, move up and down the court and shot. But those are the guys who usually go to places like Pittsburg or Villanova. It will be extremely difficult to get that guy in here as a freshman who can contribute right away. They are out there but there are a lot fewer of them than the 6-5 195 guys. Not sold that JUCO is the way to go.
I know there are some here who want a change NOW. But the AD has spoken and Coach Martin will be back. We just have to hope the coaching staff continues to learn from their past missteps. That includes everything from recruiting students who will not have academic problems at Marist to managing the clock at the end of the game.
Everyone has been given a long leash (by the Administration), longer than many think should have been given. The time for "get 'er done" begins right now.
If this is truly going to be a team that will be playing meaningful games next season the commitment for success must come from every person affiliated with the basketball program and start now.
