I was at the game. Rider was playing its B game for the most part. When Marist cut it to 6, they switched to their A game. If they played their full throttle A game all night this was a 30 point loss (especially since Bowie and, more importantly, Prescott didn't play much in the 2H).
Another poster asked why we were settling for 3-point shots after we cut the lead to 6. Answer: Rider started to play its A game, increased its defensive pressure, and that's all we could get.
They were toying with us last night, including their coach. If you were there ask yourself: Did they for a second look like they were worried about Marist?

Well I guess that no one else on this blog was upset that Pat McDerby didn;t start the game. This has been a tradition for years. There were times that on Senior Night the game mattered (this one didn't) and the senior players started (including walk-ons). Another example of disrespect for the players and school. In 16 years of watching MMBB I have seen more signs of arrogant disregard to the student athletes than I have seen in the previous years.

again it seems that Petagay is watching a different game then most others - those rose colored glasses must be nice.... Foxman u are right on and homebody you are also right - he could have started McDerby and called one of his famous timeouts .30 sec into 1st half.... but this guy is clueless on soooo many levels

i was also in attendence last evening. Foxman your assessment is spot on.
I was sitting in the section that was a part of the booing and heckling at the end of the game and it was definitely directed at Martin. It is the same group of season ticket holders for the last 8 - 10 years and have had enough of the Martin experiment.

ct- just read Martin's response to not starting McDerby - and it is classless and clueless - for a 5-25 team not to be able to give up 30 seconds to do the right thing - is showing that Martin is just not right for Marist - doesn't seem to have same values as the rest of the school

There was clear booing and heckling coming from the long time season ticket holders just behind me staring at the 1 minute mark...the refs had put their whistles away by this time. I heard "coach" and "Martin" clearly in the heckles. I've spoken to 5 or 6 long time season ticket holders who are giving up their tickets next year...they've had enough. As for playing really well for 5 minute to cut the lead to 6...I'm not interested in that...got to play a full 40 minute competitive game...needed to do that 15 games ago. The team at least played large stretches of solid ball vs. Iona and FF than beat UNH but last night was really a 5-7 min stretch in the second half...other than that Rider outscored us by 25-30 the other 32 minutes...that's a step back. We got good looks but we could not connect on the shots...ok..that would be good for last years team in January, or this years team in early December. Not interested anymore in mini team victories. We got some good looks at times last night and did a good job hanging onto the ball, but we got out rebounded, shot horrifically and got picked apart on D....that's a bad outing.

Anyone notice how athletic Rider looked compared to us? That's not all upperclassmen. Who do we have as athletic as FR Stewart?

No positivity in following post. Also, if you are sensitive about negative comments towards the current coach, please disregard the rest of the post. I will even space it out a few so you can't whine that you HAD to read it. Thanks.
How dare Martin say he wanted a better send off for KB and McDerby. This fraud of a coach didn't play Bauer this year until forced and publically stated, "he has to earn his minutes". And now you can't give McDerby the obligatory 2 minute spot start like almost EVERYONE does. You have 5 wins this year you fraud. Get the heck off the Marist sidelines, get away from these players, get away from McCann. We don't want you, LEAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Playing McDerby would have been a huge detriment to the start of the game for Marist. We fell behind 32-10...if McDerby had played 1-2 minutes it may have been 34-6...and than we would have lost the game by 22 instead of 16.
Seriously though...there were alot of folks in the season ticket section with me who really were dissapointed in his decision to not play the walk on.
If next year is not a 15+ win season it's going to be uglier than it's ever been at McCann...lots more empty seats and lots of loud, audible heckles. The fans in general (not just on this board) have had enough.

RF5... we are so used to losing that anything more than 10 wins will be a HUGE victory for CM next year. He has been able to bullshit his way around winning 1 game and now 5 games... so if he wins 10 next year he may convince Murray to give him a Contract Extension & Raise.
Petagay you may have been booing for the "bad calls" but the majority of the crowd was booing CM. I was one of the ones booing because he did not play McDerby.. If Kemp Were still here he probably would not have started Bauer Either.
But again i'm just a spectator. Losing does not matter. As long as its not by 20+

Pat was "just" a walk on! At the current state of injuries and suspensions this team would not be able to conduct a good scrimmage or practice without the walk-ons. I guess this doesn't matter because they don't appear to have a plan for offense that works, so no need to practice.
I can't believe to total arrogance od this coach. The press conference was demeaning, his attitude is embarrassing and the reflection on the school, particularly within the community, is larger than many think. Yes this is only a game, unfortunately the men's program is a large part of the Marist face. Thanks to the women for their class and dignity.

If the 3s aren't falling then there is no need to jack up 30 of them...run an offensive play once down the stretch of a winnable game is all I ask.

Fairfield is #1 in the league and didnt start there seniors ether ... The coaches reason was because they wanted to keep their routine ... Pat should of started for Marist tho .. i agree w that ...
and to say that Rider wasnt worried about Marist run down to 6 is complete BS ... the 2 made 3's late is the reason they got close .. and Marist def hasd the momentum ... then Robinson started to pentrate and dish for open jump shots .. The free throws is what sealed the game for Rider ... Bowie bruised his thigh and Sam banged his knee .. thats why they played limited time in the second half ...
