The way things are shaping up right now Siena is putting themselves in position for the 7 seed and we look headed for 10th...
That could set up a scenario where Siena wins their 10th straight game vs us to end our season, sweeps us 3-0 for the year, wins back-back on senior night and the PIG and goes to 6-0 in the tourney against us all time.
Oh the Pain...

Who do you think Manhattan will beat to put us in 10th? They have Siena and Iona at home, then do the Buffalo trip the last weekend. They might have to win 2 to get ahead of us, because we beat Canisius and they are threatening to finish ahead of Siena. I'm not sure I wouldn't rather play Siena instead of Niagara in the PIG anyway at this point.

Oh the Pain... You could here the crickets over on the Siena Board last night. There expectations have been pretty much crushed. Oh well. I'm not ready to say Siena is destined for the PIG yet, more-so because of who they are in the dogfight with, Canisius, not a particularly trustworthy bunch when it comes to winning. Not that it is really a big deal who Marist faces at this point.

You really aren't trying to argue that the relative merits of finishing 9th vs 10th means anything, are you? And as I said in my previous post, it doesn't matter who Marist plays in the tournament from a match-up perspective, the facts that matters is that Marist is still in the PIG and the lower seed in that match-up.

Yeah does not really matter who we face. I don't trust Manhattan to get ahead of us but a seemingly impossible scenario a few months ago of a MAR- SIE March matchup is now a realistic possibility. Anyone who knows Marist bball knows that has not been a good thing for Marist and would just rub salt in the wound should it happen again with the same results.
Also while Manhattan stinks and should lose all 4 games left don't forget we are MARIST and based on the last 20 years Man will find a way to have one ridiculous, unexpected win vs a non PIG team over the last 4 and find a way to get the 9 seed.

oldfox, I think finishing 9th vs. 10th has SOME meaning. A bit more than say 8th vs. 9th, especially since Marist was picked to finish 10th this year. It would be nice to finish out of the basement. There must be something to be said for that, right? RF5 said it looked like we are headed for 10th (in an absolute tone) and I was just wondering how they would get there. They may have to beat Iona or win 2 of 4 to do it, and although it would be like hitting a 65 footer against you to win by one, you have to think it is unlikely. If it does happen, maybe the odds have to be on our side to finally beat Siena. Would there be a better way to put a stamp on the end of their mini-dynasty? In my view, there is a lot more to gain in playing Siena in the PIG than there is to lose.

We will most likely lose to anyone we play in the PIG but if by some miracle we win that day it would mean more vs. SIE than NIA or Man. Seriously you thought my tone was absolute? lol I just wanted to see what reaction that possible scenario would receive given the history of painful losses Marist has had to Siena over the 14 years in the MAAC.

They actually force those 4 teams to qualify for the tournament if you think about it. That's why they are Play In Games. Finishing out the PIG is what matters.

Finishing 9 or 10 means NOTHING. Means we suck maybe just as bad as someone else instead of being the suckiest. Oh yey.

I also wouldn't mind Siena. Marist isn't winning more than 2 games in the MAAC tourney this year, yes, I did say that. League stinks. Marist could pull of an upset on the Saturday. Beating Siena would be a bunch of fun.

I think Marist with its A+ game could pull off an upset on Friday...Saturday...well Marist is 0-5 and been outscored by 22.2 per game by SPC, ION, FF and RID, two of those will be the 1-2 most likely. Those results were with Kemp for the most part.

It's sad when the biggest hope for the season is having to pull off an UPSET to win the PIG game.

Also, if Marist did get Siena it would be back-back games. 2001-2002 heavily favored Marist team beat Siena twice that year, including on the last day of the season, but could not win the third game in MAAC Quarters which was a back-back situation.
It would be real interesting if this plays out. It would put alot of karma, luck and "curses" on the line. It's always hard to win 3 against one team, especially in a back-back situation.

The Siena faithful seem resigned that the run is just about over. Their near term future isn't much more hopeful than Marist's. Want to really stick it to them? Win at the TUC on Senior Night.
