I think that they have all showed signs. I think the the thing that makes it tough is that they all need to be good on the same night. The suspensions, injuries, and losing all add up. Mentally, if these guys just survive, it's saying something. I agree. The results are horrible. I think if that he brought in a no-nonsense scoring big man, that could help more than you might think. A guy that takes charge and isn't afraid. Looking back, I think that Murray needed to bring in an established coach to calm the seas and then go for the rising star. Good post. I do agree that an established coach would have been the way. But were their many looking to take on the job at the time? It's senior leadership(and pts, rebs, and assists). Let's face it, we lost our last coach over money and sub-par facilities. Then we try to go with a an unproven head coach. Something doesn't add up... For me it's crazy. If we're talking about paying a coach an extra $100,000 to make sure you have the best program in the MAAC, it will pay for itself. Back to the other thing. I think our kids have been pretty good. If we had McCaffrey coaching them, we'd be better. But we won't pay the top money. We're always asking our coaches to do more with less. They constantly cut corners. I just don't get it...

And with the women' success, Marist should be a program that any coach would want. But you have to pay the guy top $. Equal to what Siena pays or at least close.

I agree with you Yankee. I don't like the offense either. And I don't like counting on the women's team for yearly excitement. As someone put it, I'm a Marist supporter, not a CM guy. I liked him as a person coming in. I was very surprised they hired him. I'm not gonna ridicule him. I still wish him well. If firing him is in the best interest of the program, do it. Then spend some freakin money and give the next coach the resources he needs to win. The McCann better be fixed up so it's at least a D-1 facility. I love watching games there but it it somewhat embarrassing that it's called a high school gym and you're D-1. Right with you. I want an experienced coach to get this back on track. Skinner, what will it take?

Ggaff, Marist would find it hard to pay as much as Siena. They have a huge advantage with the TUC and the area they can pull fans from. Their revenues for basketball have to be much more when you consider they charge double the price, have 3-4 times as many fans in the seats and probably get income from signage in the arena, etc. But Marist can pay more and should for the next coach. Fairfield suppossedly gave Cooley a big number. I don't see why Marist can't go close to Fairfields numbers.

I would say that 9-9, 15 wins overall would need to happen or pull the plug. I'd of course have no problem pulling the plug now. But if he escapes firing this year than, if I were in charge those numbers would be my worst case scenario. If he can't hit that next year he has turned a 99.9% failure into 100%.

Since we're talking about next years expectations and possibilities it's important to know the competition. I will post full rosters at a later date but next year CM will have a full JR, SO and FR class that he hand picked to be successful here...no roster fillers or last minutes recruits. So with that in mind our senior class is the only class that will be at a disadvantage...with a full JR class that's not a huge deal IMO.
Here is what the rest of the league is losing as far as seniors this year and who will be in their senior class next year.
Players lost to graduation:
Fairfield: Yorel Hawkins, Warren Edney, Greg Nero, Lyndon Jordan Iona: Alejo Rodriguez, Rashon Dwight St. Peter's: Wesley Jenkins, Ryan Bacon, Nick Leon, Jeron Belin, Jordan Costner Rider: Justin Robinson, Mike Ringgold, Patrick Mansell Loyola: Brian Rudolph, Jamal Barney Siena: Ryan Rossiter, Clarence Jackson, Steven Priestly Canisius: Elton Frazier, Julius Coles, Greg Logins, Tomas Vazquez-Simmons, Robert Goldsberry Niagara: Anthony Nelson Marist: Korey Bauer, DeJuan Goodwin Manhattan: Demetrius Jemison, Nick Walsh, Andrew Gabriel
2011-2012 senior classes:
Fairfield: Ryan Olander, Sean Crawford, Rakim Sanders Iona: Michael Glover, Scott Machado, Jermel Jenkins, Trinity Fields, Randy Dezouvre St. Peter's: Brandon Hall, Jack Hill Rider: Novar Gadson, Brandon Penn, Jeff Jones Loyola: Shane Walker, J'hared Hall, Anthoyn Winbush, Josh Wiegand Siena: Kyle Dowey, Owen Wignot, Kyle Griffin, Brandon Walters Canisius: Marial Dhal, Rokus Gricius Niagara: Kashief Edwards Marist: R.J. hall Manhattan: Kidani Brutus, Robert Martina, Djibril Coulibaly
Iona has a loaded senior class next year. FF, Loy and Rider have talent as well... other than that I'm not all the impressed.
IF CM is for real shouldn't Marist be able to compete with on an even level or even forge ahead of Canisius, Niagara, Siena, Manhattan and SPC next year? Be in position to steal a game or two from the other 4 and play competitive bball with them in all the games?
That's IF he is for real and his recruits are up to par.

I think Niagara takes a big jump up next season. They are bringing in one better than average, and one very high ranking (by MAAC standard) recruits from Philly. They played all season without Freshman Antoine Mason Jr. who, despite the small sample, looked like the real deal until he got injured. Yes, Nelson is a huge loss, but Marvin Jordan looked pretty good against Marist. I think they get through their growing pains pretty quickly next year. JM is a very good coach. espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=51168espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recruiting/school/_/id/315

Yeah I can see NIA jumping...but if CM was doing what he set out to do we should not be getting jumped by younger teams. But we all can see he has not done what he set out to do so far.
As far as recruiting...Siena has some decent freshman as does FF and Man even. SPC and FF each have a D-I transfer player eligible as a JR next year. I believe both played in the A-10 but could be wrong.

A lot depends on the out of conference games. If we play up next year like we did this year. I doubt we win more than a couple there. If we go .500 in the MAAC that would be 11 or 12 total wins. It will be very difficult to get 9 wins in the MAAC based on what we've been observing for the past 4 months. But the above info regarding all the seniors leaving could help. If CM really want to save his job he should schedule the worst teams in the worst leagues. Play an America East team or two but not a top teams like Vermont; play Binghamton or Albany. Or play one of the bottom feeders in the A-10. Get some stinkin' wins to start and build the players confidence. If we play all up teams next season we will have a very hard time building player confidence, which right now may be the most important thing the coaching staff has to do.
