Want to see everyone's opinions on the state of the talent on this team. Game coaching and teaching totally aside.
We just played a very competitive game with a Manhattan team that has a couple decent young players but not a ton of talent in their own right.
How do we match up with he rest of the league?
Take away this years senior class and how do our underclassmen match up with the Juniors and underclassmen around the league?
The answer to that question will reveal the approximate results of the next TWO seasons.
What are everyone's thoughts?
IMO I think pure talent: Prescott, Price and Kemp are all potential ALL-MAAC guys in the future assuming they stay/get playing time(Price).
I think Bowie is a solid solid player who may not ever be ALL-MAAC but should have an above average MAAC career.
Carter I still can't pin a tag on yet. Definitely not a star...apparently not a stiff either. He does most everything solidly but nothing spectacular. If he can improve his three point shot I think he's an average to above average role player in the future.
Other than that I think it's mostly a combination of at best average MAAC to sub MAAC role players. Watson has potential as an inside scorer but is not really good on the glass, or defending. Rusin has skills scoring the ball but is so lost right now it's hard to imagine him getting on track with his strength (scoring) let alone fixing his weaknesses (D and TO's).
Alexis draws alot of conversation on here. He's a solid rebounder, excellent FT shooter and a good enough ball handler for a wing. He plays tentatively and the college three has so far proven to be out of his range. His jump shot in general has never gotten on track this year. He needs that as he's not overly athletic.
One final comment about team athleticism. We all assumed that we'd have...and many of us called for a more athletic group of players. Does this group have more pure athletes than the Brady and Magarity teams? Perhaps...I don't think the difference is significant. I do know that the outside shooting has suffered in the attempt to go more athletic but I would categorize Marist as still one of the more athletically challenged teams in the MAAC. Prescott and Price both are very good skilled athletes, Kemp is agile and athletic enough for a guy his size at this level. I would not classify anyone else on the roster as even above average athletically (maybe Bowie) Really not a variation from the Magarity and Brady teams that always had a guy here or there who could jump out of the gym (Hill, McCurdy, Smith, Hood, Gregory etc.)
