With all the negativity around, this would be a great time for the Marist athletic department to come up with some different ideas to get the young kids out to the game for the rest of the home schedule. Any ideas on how to do that?
I know Marist has done a bring your kid free game in the past. I believe they are doing that for the women this year. Why not do a "spend an hour" with the team day after one of the upcoming games. Let all the kids come on the floor and have the players do some drills, free throws, passing drills, etc. Need to do some things to get the community back, because they are gradually losing more than half of their base of fans.

The student body is disgusted with their classmates (men's basketball team) being mocked and denigrated by Chuck Martin and his sidekick Lanier. Get rid of Chuck Martin/Lanier and have the AD issue an apology to the students /Alum and organize a rally around the new coaching staff. There is no hope now. The students know that other players will be transferring out - students feel each others pain /frustration and hopelessness.

You think the student body is disgusted. Most of the empty seats are usually occupied by members of the community and alum. They are really disgusted. Some probably chose to stay home to re-arrange their sock drawers rather than witness another disappointing loss.
I sure hope this transferring stuff is just talk and rumor. There are some good players here who can be the foundation for a winning program once the coaching situation is settled. Who? Prescott, Price, Kemp, Bowie, Carter, Watson, Alexis; maybe even Prinsloo & Rusin could improve with better coaching.

I meant the kids in the community jgood. Jgood, you have many who agree a change needs to be made, but anything you like about the team? I notice you don't seem to have an issue with Lee for example. Also, since coaching changes during a season rarely happen, what do you think Marist could do to get young kids and families back?

Mens basketball players transferring? Let's just say that the McCann center restoration should include revolving doors if Chuck Martin remains coach. What do you think the new recruits are thinking watching Bauer apparently completely demoralized and depressed sitting the bench in his senior year after starting and playing his heart out last season? What a travesty!

Jgood: I doubt there were any new or potential recruits at yesterdays game so that's not a real problem.
As far as Bauer is concerned, he lost interest quite a while ago. He has not paid attention during the time outs since the beginning of the season. He stands in the back looking around the McCann center not even listening to the coaches. I'm not the only one who has observed that, for sure. His talent is limited. So help me understand why he should get minutes. Because he was the only big option last year?

Hey guys, first post.. As an underclassmen here at Marist, there really is nothing else to say that sums up the student body's attitude towards men's basketball: embarrassment. A huge fan of basketball, my friends and I regularly attend the games because we love basketball and love the fact that we get to see Division-1 games for the price of walking to the McCann Center. But then again, how great is seeing your own school losing by 20 to conference foes on your home floor? Students know that this team was the worst in the NCAA last season, and with only a few wins on the board this far into the season, things don't look like they are turning around too quickly.
The only true solution for a larger crowd, more support, and dedication to this program from it's fan base, whether the students or the community, is winning basketball games. There is talent in the system. This incoming recruiting class has plenty of potential and we, as students, are pretty psyched about that aspect. But until the victories start popping up in the newspaper, don't expect any improvement in numbers in the stands. As the women's team has shown, win and you earn respect AND fans. You know it's bad when the biggest game of the year will be the Pack the house night on the women's schedule. You rarely hear about the mens' team on campus unless it's about how many losses they have or what party or club they were at last night. It's time to change that and hopefully the process has begun. Whether or not Chuck Martin deserves to stay or not is up to the AD, but in the end, the decision needs to be made for the good of the future of the program. To sum up our feelings here, win and you will get our support.

Bauer sybolizes the true value in sports. The kid didn't tranfer when Brady bailed. Bauer remained loyal to Marist and gave his school his all while being played into the ground last season againt multiple big opponents. You don't completely bench Bauer in his senior year when he is clearly needed to win games and rally his teamates as an upper classman. You do not have these positive dynamics under Chuck Martin's rule. What really roiled the Marist fans at the Loyola game was when one of the assistant coaches directed Bauer to get in the game and then Bauer was cursed by Martin to sit the "F" down while the coaches argued. Clearly the coaching staff are at odds with each other. Rob Johnson transferred out and many more players will follow if Martin remains head coach. Marist will continue to lose more players from academic suspensions. Contrary to "Martin's response?" in the Poughkeepsie Journal, I would bet the remaing few years that I that Martin has zero involvement with his players' academics -the many suspensions speak the truth. IT IS TIME TO CHUCK CHUCK !

Bauer had his chance to rally his teammates as a senior during the first part of the season and did not, at least according to his body language and play. I would say the same for Goodwin.
I do not see many, if any, of the current players transferring after this year and I checked next year's recruits facebook pages and they are still speaking positively about coming to Marist, as they should be.

dewd, Bauers lack of playing time and the comment Martin made about him earning the minutes was disgraceful. He played his a.. off last year. He needs to be honest and just say he is going to play his recruits. You can't tell me Prinsloo at this time is a better option.

Yankee, as I've said on other posts, I agree Bauer played his tail off last year and we are all very grateful for what he did. Maybe he is burnt out from last year because he did not seem to have any fire in the early part of this year when he was playing. I think they may have won the Siena game or Loyola if Bauer played with the heart he had last year, but I do not know if he had it in him anymore. Even if he did play and they won, would it really have mattered in the long run - maybe they could have avoided the PIG (maybe they still can?), but in the long run, getting Prinsloo the experience or finding out he can't cut it will pay off more dividends in the future IMO.
I also said in another post that I was not overly impressed with Prinsloo this year, but I think the coaches want to see what he has to offer as a Kemp backup for 4 years and it is better to find out this year before the games (hopefully) become more meaningful next year and the years thereafter. If he works out to be a serviceable backup, that is one key position they will not have to recruit for for at least 2 more years.

But to get him up with a minute to go in first half as his only PT against Loyola? He is now demeaning him. And I hope the first hand accounts of Martin telling him to sit the "f" down were misheard.

I agree that was mishandled last game but was not close enough to hear what was said or how it all went down. I hope they smoothed it all over with him. I wonder if he will let his feelings be known once the season is over. It would be interesting to hear what he has to say about all of this.

Hopefully they play like that the whole game next time. I will say Martin found 2 gems in prescott and Kemp. I think he has anoter in Alexis. Need to give him more time IMO.
