Huge game for Marist. Biggest game of the last two years. If Marist can win this one we could legitimately be on our way to 7 or 8 MAAC wins.
If they come out playing hard and limit the TO's they have a very good shot.
Go Marist!!!!!!!

I am gonna make this game. Originally wasn't looking good, but I have a good feeling Marist has more than a decent shot to win this game. Siena is not very athletic with CJ out. If CJ plays significant minutes, Marist most likely loses. But if he doesn't, Marist might be able to run around this team quite a bit for some easy hoops. DO IT CHUCK, make us eat our words.

What scares me about this game is that they had so many days off ... after a long rest they always come out flat, with no energy .... they seem to play better towards the end of stretches (back to back to back games) ..
This will be a fun/interesting game tho ...

Jackson 5-7 from distance in his return, scores 19 points and Marist loses by 7. Of course.

Poor performance tonight...the game was entertaining but Marist was just not able to execute many basic things.
1...PG was brutal tonight. Hall and Price combine for 8 pts, 5 assists and 9 turnovers on 4-18 shooting...mostly Hall.
2...Marist got burned THREE times trying to trap off an in-bounds after a timeout and every time Siena got a wide open three and nailed it. All three times it stopped a Marist rally. Siean could not get an open outside shot in their normal half court set until Marist THREE times gave them one by doubleteaming their PG on the perimeter. Just awful defensive play calling.
3...Marist could not make their FT's. 8-15 plus three missed front ends.....10 points left off the board.
4...Marist could not break the press in the first half.
5...Marist missed a number of wide open looks from three and from the paint area by driving guards.
Any ONE of the above is cleaned up by Marist tonight and they probably win.
Also, the sub patterns were beyond weird again...no bench points cause the bench really did not play. I still don't understand why Bauer sits and Prinsloo is the first big off the bench. I know none of us understand that. Hardly any Rusin or Alexis or Watson...very very strange.
I really wish CM would settle on a rotation of 8 or 9. He goes from playing 12 guys to tonight playing only 5 pretty much. He goes from relying heavily on guys like Rusin and never playing Carter to the exact opposite. Shouldn't he know by know the talent range of his players?
On a positive note I really like what I'm seeing from Carter. He's earned the ability to keep playing in the rotation. I said he did not have D-I talent and I was wrong and I'm happy about that.

Some positive growth overall in terms of being competitive. Kemp played like a warrior. He outsizes Rossiter by quite a bit, especially in the shoulders. He battled hard on every possession. Dorvell Carter appears for real. Looks like he can be a 15-20 minute contributor rest of year. He isn't a power forward, but he has a nice offensive game. Marist will have a hard time on the boards with him as the 4 though. Prescott looked quick today and played well. Defensive intensity was great. Marist was quick to the ball and played hard, hustling on every possession for the most part. Some negatives as well, but the one big one that stands out is playing Prinsloo. He is not ready. Every time they put him in, Siena would score and he would be pulled. WHY NOT PLAY BAUER in these spots? Other negative was play of Hall. He killed them today. He had a bunch of early turnovers and he wasn't hitting his shot. BUT, you can tell he is the leader of this team. He didn't let his bad play get him down. He was still leading them till the end. Both teams played poorly in my opinion, missing the front ends of one-ones, missing some easy chippies etc. Siena's interior D was better in this game than I remember last year. They did a good job bottling up some of Marists drives and CJ did a nice job deflecting passes, couple steals. CJ was the difference this game for Siena. Other observations: As always, Siena had a nice contingent of fans, I would guess around 250 or so. Its always a good bunch, tends to be an older group. 4 weird guys in front row who did the rock and roll that the players do during pregame themselves:). I wonder if they post on the MAAC board? Also, Siena traveled a guy who must have been about 84 years old, had a yellow sweater and cane. He almost broke a hip trying to get to his seat at one point. Could the fans help a brother out? Kyle Griffin had the misfortune of sitting in his suit and tie next to a female team manager who apparently likes to show off her breasts. Someone needs to tell her to check herself and where something more appropriate.

Entertaining game, but frustrating at the same time. Siena's biggest lead was 7 and Marist never lead. Just kept going from a 6 or 7 point lead down to 1 or 2 and when Marist had the chance to tie or take the lead, they could not do it. I got the feeling Marist players saw taking the lead against Siena as a bigger hill to climb than it really was, which made it impossible to do. RJ could have tied it with an old fashioned 3, but missed the foul shot. Too many missed foul shots - another sign that they were pressing a little. I am just glad to have a meaningful, exciting game at McCann again. Hope there's more to come this year and I think there will be. I think Kemp played toe-to-toe with Rossiter and Rossiter could not match his physicality. Thought the refs gave them the benefit of the doubt too many times, particularly Rossiter and most of the close calls went against Marist, as usual. It's a tough thing to change the referees perception of teams.

Someone needs to tell her to check herself and where something more appropriate. I agree on Kemp...he played well. 5.5 ppg and 5.8 rpg are nice numbers for a freshman big. Those numbers are bogged down a bit by his first few games when he was still getting his legs. He's averaged 7.7 ppg and 6.5 rpg over his last 6 games. There are still a ton of things I don't like from a coaching perspective but I hold out hope for the future because I think with Kemp improving and coming out strong as a Soph in the post and Morton running the point Marist could make a big jump next year. Solid wing players, guys who can shoot a bit, drive a bit, pull up and score a bit are rather common in the MAAC (and we have a couple good ones I think with Prescott and Bowie), but a real good PG and C are much harder to find and if Kemp is what we think he is and Morton is too, Marist just possibly may be onto something. I just hope that CM's coaching does not bog us down when/if we finally do get into meaningful big games

Marist has now lost 8 straight to Siena. The last win was senior night February 2007, Jordan and Whittington's last home game. Hate losing to anyone but especially that team.
Marist also has a 6 game losing streak vs. Rider and 5 vs. Loyola. 2-3 vs. everyone else obviously aside from Niagara, Canisius and Manhattan who we have 1 game "winning streaks" against.

One thing I thought I'd share. Someone had mentioned that Brady was more liked than CM. I was speaking with a friend who ran the pre-game reception. She runs all of the events. She loves Chuck. A lot more than Brady. Says he's much more personable. So I don't know where the poster got that info from. Chuck was positive in the press conference also. I think they a point guard away from contending. We've got the real deal next year. I love Dorvell's play. He looks more like he did at Rice. If they can Menelik in real shape for next year, they'll contend. Kemp owned Rossiter physically. A little more polish and he'll be a really good MAAC center. I think things will work out fine. One or two plays away from winning last night.

On the bus to MAAC tourney last year, a prominent Marist emplyee blasted Brady for his attitude and how he interacted with people.

Effort was there but outrebounded (by 5) and negative assist-to-turnover (lead by Hall) again. These have to be turned into positives to win games. Dorvell is not the answer re: rebounding, I think Watson is given his size. They have to start outrebounding the opponent to win.
Zone was very soft in the interior for the first 10 minutes, which lead to many layups for Siena. We tightened up thereafter, but they build a lead (+7) which they maintained to the end.
We are seeing more of/from Prescott and less Rusin, which I think is a plus.
Kemp is the key for improved results moving forward. He needs to be shot-ready in the paint (like Rossiter), develop a move the the left (everthing is to the right), dribble less, and, of course he needs the ball more often. He is our future leading scorer/go to guy.
Very tough road games vs. Iona and Rider coming up. They are both tough teams (Siena is soft). Rebounding will be critical. Coach needs to tell Watson that his job is to box-out and rebound with some toughness since he matches up much better against Iona and Rider front lines than Carter. I'd like to see Carter and Watson sharing time at the 4 position 50/50.

After Bauer's cameo appearance I noticed Glen Marinelli came over to him and talked with him for a minute or so. Maybe he's been hurt!

He better be hurt, otherwise its borderline criminal how he has been treated his senior year.
