I am not sure how basketball divisions work in New York, however let me clarify a few things about how they work in Florida. Jay Bowie played in the 2A division in the state based on enrollment. His team went 27-5 his senior year and 26-5 his Junior year. He played in two Final 4's. He never would have gone to prep if it wasn't a good basketball program. In 2A games we were 15-1, losing only in the State final to a team that had a McDonalds All-American (Patric Young going to Florida) and a Kentucky recruit (Stacey Poole). We were 12-4 against against 4A,5A and 6A competition. I get a little tired of hearing about Jay being someone who beat up on little kids. He was MVP of the City of Tampa Championship when we beat three 6A public schools to win back to back championships. I may be a little sensitive but the program that Jay comes from has produced many D1 players. One who started for Duke when they won the Championship in 2001 and another who was on the Syracuse team that won in 2003. I attended three high school games in the Albany area last year of schools that were considered some of the better"big schools." We would have, in my opinion, drilled these schools. Do not judge a player and a program based upon an enrollment number. If so St. Anthony's, Oak Hill and Findlay Prep(Las Vegas) would be not be good enough for some of the posters on this site. Judge Jay on the court not on the number of students his high school graduates.

I stand corrected.
Joe (yes I know you were his HS coach) please understand we have someone posting here who though he has never seen Jay play he seems to be touting him as the second coming! I want Jay to be the second best player ever to attend Marist. Rik Smits will always be the best! But we can't anoint him before he even attends his first class.
I will remove 2 sentences.
"The best part of this article (http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slug=rivals-385402) is that Sebastian Telfair's little brother may be playing ball for RC Ketcham.
Marist simply can't compete with some of the big programs after the recruits we keep reading about here. Yes it is wonderful that Martin is out there working the courts but he would not be doing his job if he didn't.
Stop counting your chickens (super frosh) before the egg is hatched (we see him play). The only way Jay Bowie sees any significant PT is if Sam Prescott does not play for Marist this year.
He's going to be good someday but he'll be a freshman on an upperclassmen (one senior, many sophomores and a couple redshirt freshmen) dominated team. lol
I agree with Nomar. I'm tired of reading about kids who will never play for Marist."

A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty!

I totally agree with your last two posts
Because, I too am an optimist but with a sense for reality. You appear to be an optimist with a sense for dreaming.

So Jay Bowie has been on campus and everyone (included coach Martin/ Tim Murray) is very impressed with his ability and competitive nature! ... Sam Prescott will be changing his jersey #25 and it looks like Jay will be wearing that number as he did in HS. (Sam told me directly that he was changing his number but did get into why)

Sam Prescott - has worked harder then anyone to stay in school - he has been in class everyday day during his summer, he has battled so much and is a great asset to the school

Great job for a kid overcoming learning disabilities to better himself. Marist has a reputation for making their students earn their degree. Great job Prescott for making Marist proud they gave you that scholarship. Petagay, I think everyone appreciates your efforts and your enthusiasm for Marist basketball. However, what irritates some, or at least me is that you seem to turn into the HULK when someone tries to be a realist and point out that Marist has A LOT OF work to do to get back to respectability. Its not a horrible thing to point out areas of shortcoming, areas to improve.

"A positive attitude may not immediately cause difficulties to disappear, but it will definitely annoy enough people in today's world to make it worth while" ..
and its a damn shame because that is NOT my intentions .... its puzzles me how someone that looks on the brighter sides of things can annoy people ... SMH
(everyone is entitle to their own opionion on situations ...... Period) .. This is America aint it ..
