MAAC board is scooping a new player. 6'8" forward out of Edison, NJ. Formerly committed to Howard U. I cant find a thing about him though.

I just saw that too over on the MAAC board, but cant find a link anywhere that says he committed to Marist. But here is all the info I've found on him...he is originally from Georgia and played 4 years at Centennial High School; it seems like coming out of high school in Georgia he was getting some pretty good offers (Ole Miss, Fordham, UAB, Richmond) as you'll see in these next 2 links from the 2008 recruiting class... www.recruitrecon.com/?option=com_content&task=view&id=3603&Itemid=100scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=8&c=1&nid=3423372Now for whatever reason he prep schooled up in NJ this past year (whether it be grades, attitude, im not sure) and committed to Howard. I've seen him listed as about 6-7 or 6-8 on every site and weighing around 215lbs. This is the link to his rivals page from the 2009 recruiting class (they have him listed as 6-6 but i believe that is a misprint cause I havent seen that on any other website)... rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=69799

It looks like he's an '09 player. There's your Williams replacement.

Man, this stuff happens under the radar doesn't it.
Robbie (Robby) Johnson
Sounds more like a Schneider replacement based on the below excerpt from an old Scout article regarding his HS Team in Georgia.
Regardless, Marist needs all the good young talent they can recruit so a 6'7" - 6'8" wing that can shoot from the perimeter surely meets a need.
I guess we'll eventually learn if there is anything to the story.
Don't think he prepped for grades with an offer from Lehigh. Razor thin looking in the Scout picture so hopefully it more related to improvement and conditioning purposes than attitude.
"To go with Brown, Centennial has a solid senior prospect in Robbie Johnson. The 6-foot-7 combo forward is a great shooter, especially from deep and he’ll provide the Knights with another scoring option on the wing.
Johnson recently picked up a scholarship offer from UAB and is also hearing from Lipscomb, Richmond, Fordham, Columbia, Lehigh, Wofford, Winthrop and College of Charleston. "

After much thought and research I've decided that I really like this signing (if true); I agree with oldfox in that this kid can come in and replace Schneider. I really hope this kid, being 1 year removed from high school, can step right in and play down low to help Casiem. It says on his recruitrecon page that he averaged 10 rpg so the kid can grab boards and that scout report said he can shoot the long ball. (sounds just like schneider from this past year and I wouldn't mind a slighty worse version of ryan playing on the block and being a threat outside aswell). The reason why I feel this kid could right away be a very athletic and tough forward is because his high school team in Georgia did not play any stiffs. This past season they finished as the 40th best high school team in the country (according to ESPN) and at one point was in the top 25. So this kid has played with and against some of the best talents across the country. (Thus got some of those good offers out of highschool initially) Here's the link to his Georgia high school's basketball website... centennialbasketball.com/index.htm

Nice to see he had offers from UAB and Ole Miss. Must have some decent upside.

Smurfs, no more. Marist has grown in the backcourt. We talked a lot about the lack of size at guard last season and the prospect of having to play DD and RJ together for extended periods this upcoming season. Well, that has changed significantly with the addition/activation of 4 players 6'3" or better who can play at the guard positions. The guy who intrigues me the most is Carter. At 6'6" he can create some awful matchup for opponents at the 2 if Robby Johnson can give Marist some quality time at the 3.
One more open 'ship. If the staff feels that Kaba and RJ can hold down the fort at the point, then I say save it for next year.
Light at the end of the tunnel is coming folks.

Saw a highlight of Johnson hitting a three to send the Chick Filet Classic game into OT. His team ended up winning. I think he must be a decent rebounder too. Had 10 one game. Martin is going to have them at the top real soon if not this year. This team is big and athletic.
