We should be very positive on Marist future. The reason I say this is we all know and respect coach Giorgos akin to a basketball god. Coach D is his choice, his protege. We may struggle for a year or two. But, if coach can put in effort recruiting, she will succeed. Giorgos knows basketball.

Two moves I would like to see Marist make to better align the program with the new direction of CBB are: NIL and the availability of a 14th scholarship. Right now they are playing by rules that went out of existence two years ago. The men aren’t forced to play with 12 scholarship players every year. Why are the women told to play with 13?
Let’s level the playing field for the program.

Enough to spell his name correctly, even. However, you're the only one on here weirdly (and repeatedly) referring to him as godlike. Cringe AF, I think the kids say.

Does it affect you?

Marist funds the all. WBB allowed 15 scholarships under NCAA. Marist only funds 13. It’s like Marist telling MBB you can only have 12.

And even if they get more, they have to do better finding players. Plenty of scholarships players doing nothing last few years.

Quinny has, but I’m thinking more about how valuable funding a 14th scholarship would be to a staff when the future of wbb is unlimited transfers. Just think of how much more strategic and opportunistic a staff could be with a 14th scholarship. They wouldn’t even need to use it every year. The flexibility add a 14th player for a couple of years to a developing roster or the “last piece” (think Kate Mager at Iona) to a favorites roster would be huge.

I would agree if other maac schools were funding it an we weren't. But still, we have had like a dozen scholarship players doing nothing last few years. The bigger issue is the staff recognizing and signing talented players.

Well, IMO if you wait for other MAAC program to innovate before you do, you will probably end up in the NEC. . Marist is a Nike School, right? I say, “Just Do It!”

One the scholarship point, the athletic department is clearly investing in the football program. They need to step up and give Erin the two addition scholarship if they want to see growth in the program.

Maybe if they recruit better they will open them up. Look at all the scholarship money not doing anything.

Yes but look at two of the "wasted" scholarships are due to the transfer portal. We were supposed to have Weimar for 4 (5 maybe with a COVID year maybe) and she leaves. So the staff is desperate for a post, they add Rife because maybe she was a late bloomer with size, and the next year they add Donnelly, great freshman season at UMass and then injury ridden after - hoping that was done. Same year, Barcello decides to sit out.
So if the staff had those 2 scholarships, they could have had an extra wing and post player in waiting (maybe not the level of Barcello and Weimar but at least wouldn't have made us desperate).
Every program misses, having the extra scholarships allow more chances to hit

I was just making the point that there is clear the athletic department is putting time and money into the football (not necessarily scholarships) but nothing into wbb
