League play gets under way today and Marist Red Foxes, 2-7, travel to the heart of Peacock Nation to take on the St. Peter’s University Women’s Basketball Team, 2-6. Unsurprisingly, both teams enter this game coming off a loss. The new and improved St. Peter’s Roster included a number of transfers including former Rider Bronc Maya Hyacinth paired with a number of players who provide a decidedly international flavor to the line up including three players hailing from London, England, one from Wales and another from Argentina. Second year head coach Jennifer Leedham earned her first career win with a 61-57 win over Central Conn. State then logged another as a result of a 63-54 win at LIU. The 1-2 punch of Fatmata Janneh and Jada Leonard lead St. Peter’s in scoring at a fraction over 10 points per game. Rachel Kuhl and Leonard take the bulk of the teams 3’s with Leonard connecting at nearly 41 percent of her takes. Janneh also leads the team in rebounds by a significant margin averaging a healthy 6.4 caroms per game. Reilly Sunday is the Peacocks top distributor with 23 assists entering league play.
The question on every Marist fans mind is will Kiera Fisher finally be healthy enough to hit the court again. It’s the league opener. Everyone is 0-0 and hope springs eternal.

Marist is terminally unathletic. Janneh looks like a player who would have played for Marist 10 years ago. Moving the ball well and getting open shots. Again, just can’t throw the ball in the ocean from the beach.

Well we didn’t solve the perimeter shooting issues with recruiting

I’m now longing for the time we scored 8 points in a quarter - 6 is embarrassing

Marist under Giorgis was never the most athletic. Lower half MAAC teams though went all-in on athleticism (to the extent they could), since they couldn't land top talent. At least found ways to make games close, played up tempo, ramped up the press, etc.
Doughty has to figure out what style she's going with. Unathletic and not fundamentally sound will lead to a short tenure. Need to win recruiting battles as the Marist logo doesn't dazzle the same way in HS bleachers.

Stubborn group they think they can shoot the 3 - they need to get it into the paint and try

14 points in a half, 8 pints from the arc 3 for 18 and 5-27 FGP overall. Two 6’5” transfer players and rebounded by 8 in the first half and going into the 3rd down 23-14.
The fact that’s SPU has 16 turnovers is the only reason Marist is still in it.

Sorry that’s 9 points from the arc, I can’t add.
Wow just switched from Niagara thumping Iona, what happened SPU doubling up on the Foxes. Guess the Peacocks are a bit underrated right?

Coach needs to do something different. Change the lineup, use your unused players. Obviously what’s out there is not working. They need to follow their shots, box out, and get in the paint! They have two star players hurt and still playing them like dogs. SWITCH IT UP! This is tough to watch.
