Your first sentence is really telling, he was not a God the last 3-5 years unfortunately. This isn't a personal affront to Coach but a realization that style matters. This inability to adapt to today's modern player, I'm sure, had a major impact on recruiting and retention. This inability to adapt was discussed on this forum in the past and boy did it touch on some nerves, well, here we are. The loss of Weimar was a major blow to the program and the resulting lack of winning contributed to the recruiting issues. In conversations with others one general feeling is it's going to take 3 years to build up the program to a level comparable to previous years. Will Erin get that time? Is the lack of a modern facility a contributing factor among others?

They won back to back MAAC titles. 19-20 and 20-21 season
This isn’t Giorgis’ NCAA, this isn’t Giorgis’ recruiting environment. You used to recruit kids who wanted to play basketball, who took pride in the school they represented, they loved to play.
Today it is what is in it for me, how much can you give me in NIL $, you are now dealing with your best players being recruited during the handshake line by bigger teams, we were 14-16? well quickest way to get to 20+ wins is to transfer to better team, I only played 14 min a game as a freshman? Time to transfer.
If Marist recruited the ALL-MAAC ROY I promise you they are playing somewhere else next season. Right now Fairfield is putting together as much NIL $ as they can get to keep their ALL-MAAC Freshman (they invested in the facilities and program to be able to do that)
Losing Weimar is the perfect example - in today’s world we can’t afford that that caliber player to begin with.
How can she be successful? Adapt !
1 - stop guaranteeing scholarships - if you aren’t a team player, if you don’t listen to staff, if you are not buying into system, if you don’t work hard enough to get into shape - they she needs to move on.
2- Marist/her staff need to start marketing, begging for NIL $, why rest of staff is out recruiting they need to have another out campaigning for NIL $
3 - spend $ to heavily recruit overseas (international players can’t get NIL $)
They reality is unless the college spends $$$ the success of the Geogis’ era are all in rear view mirror

I agree the NIL would be needed for a Giorgis type dynasty again, and should be worked on, but I think recruiting is the issue, not retention right now.
Looking quickly at it, there were 11 all-rookie players the last two years, none from Marist, and I think only one has transferred out.
Putting aside the current freshman class, Marist has brought in 14 HS players in the four classes prior ('23 to '26).
Three all-maac players (TK/Weimar/Shazer)
Four players currently playing D2/D3
Another two players on the roster that would fit better at D2/D3
Many of the other five are likely #6-8 on depth charts at higher level schools in the MAAC.

Did Erin have more control over the reigns in BG’s last few years? There were no issues with recruiting when they had the hands, grace and Alana. I know that was a different era but it wasn’t *that* long ago either.
Yes in a vacuum there should have been a national search, but BG was great enough and important enough that they did the right thing doing it all his way. He deserved to pick his replacement and keep it in the family.
There are some red flags that have developed over the last few years, and if Erin had more influence because everyone knew she was next, it certainly is worth monitoring.

I deleted my initial post thinking it would delete the thread. The reason I deleted my post because after thinking about it, I was very unfair to all involved. This is what I wrote, just so it doesn't look like I wrote anything to crazy. But it was wrong and not fair to coach Giorgos or coach doughty.
Our former hall of fame coach Brian Giorgos was a god. I am sure he has Marist best interests in mind when he obviously requested his lead assistant and former player become head coach. Erin Doughty has huge responsibility. She has to prove Giorgos right. I wanted national search, but coach Giorgos knows more. Let's admit a real truth, the recruiting under Giorgos basically wasn't good last few years, did coach doughty no favors. I would have to think he is out there helping her now, because we are barren in terms of incoming talent
