Thomasson into the portal. Of the 15 All-MAAC players, 6 are graduating. Of the other 9:
All 3 first teamers with eligibility are in the portal.
2 out of 3 second teamers in the portal (Mervin James still at Rider).
2 out of 3 third teamers in the portal (Supreme Cook still at Fairfield).
Obviously a big portion are COVID years or Pitino leaving, but lots of turnover next season, 13 new players to lead the league.
Preseason POY is always a returning player, right? I guess that's Mervin James right now.

This is the norm moving forward - see how many Mid-major ROY, POY, and All-League players enter portal year to year.
During the year the top Mid-Major players are being recruited by bigger schools. People are reaching out, whispering in their ears, and telling them they should be playing higher.
BCS schools now can go after proven DI talent rather then HS kids

i know Murray doesn't let players do that ..once u put yourself on the portal youre gone That's what he says because it sounds like the tough guy thing to say, but he'll be the first one to twist his own words into a pretzel to suit his needs. In other words, if an all MAAC type player wanted to explore options, TM would find a way to change his "rule." i know it was this way back in the day ,,pre portal madness ,so maybe he's changed ..i also don't know if he'd allow players that left for a year to come back ...like other MAAC schools have done ..not saying there'd be players we wanted back anyway ., but i could think of a few ..but some of them burned bridges..

Siena’s Jared Billups enters his name in the portal. The MAAC exodus continues. How long until MAAC ROY Michael Eley hightails it out of Loudenville?

Niagara has added a few guys, a 3 point shooter from Ball State, a guard from Green Bay, and now a 6'5 grad transfer from Loyola Marymount that started his career at Wyoming pre-Covid.

So should this board start an NIL collective...semi-serious question. Fascinating though. Hard to see a third-teamer in the MAAC feeling like that's $65k of value. The $5-$8k average for mid-major players I guess isn't too crazy. If tuition+room and board is $60k/year, what's an extra 10% on their "compensation" if they do some commercials or appearances. There is a great question answer thread by the guy running Siena's collective, on their board. I wasn't for collectives, but after reading what Siena is doing, Marist is going to need one as well. Do we have one that anyone knows of?

We might not like the guy, but we have to be real with the criticism.

Marist still holds the MAAC record for player entering the portal in the single season with eight. However, Iona is challenging. Daniss Jenkins has entered to bring their total to seven as of 3/31. In other portal news. Name it the “Gardner’s effect”. D2 standouts are all rage in the MAAC fan-o-sphere these days. Iona up to 10 transfers. Only Shema left

Collectives make that easier and can be a great tool for grassroots fundraising. Naturally, TM thinks it's bad because it could lead to some actually good athletic programs.

No - it is being actively discouraged by the AD He can't affect it, it is literally run by people outside the school. We might not like the guy, but we have to be real with the criticism. Only partially true. At other schools the AD is encouraging/cojolling/providing education to boosters with the means to fund an NIL-club. There, the NIL-clubs are being promoted on the official social media (and I assume written, and oral correspondence). Here, the AD has stated that it is something "for the power 5 conferences" and nothing that MAAC schools need to bother with. I've heard this quote from several head coaches independently. His head is in the sand and he good at avoiding anything that requires effort/education on his part.
