This is off season will determine if extension was warranted:
1) Does he keep Ituka
2) Can he bring in at least 2 impactful bigs
Right now the roster is considerably worse the when they got blow out in MAAC tourney and so far no one is coming to help

Yeah but they were not enough to get us over the hump this year so I am guessing we need to recruit over them if we want to make some kind of jump

He could bring in 4 front court players and I would still be nervous.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is the roster as it stands today. 8 scholarship players and 5 spots to fill. This is an objectively awful roster. Ituka is the only quality starter in the group. Cele and Enoh are both borderline starters and Harris is more of a spark plug off the bench. Saint Furcy and Belton are not D1 caliber players and Cooley showed flashes but not enough to be more than maybe the 8th or 9th guy on a good team. I'm assuming that Dunne is banking on McCool being an immediate impact player which for all our sakes I hope is the case. Either way, the coaches need to go out an fill 5 spots and of that at least 2 and possibly 3 of those spots need to be starting quality players, and 1 of the 5 spots needs to be an impact big man (potentially 2 big men if Enoh leaves).
I really have tried to avoid posting on here because I did not want to bring forth negativity but once Dunne got the "multi-year extension" I couldn't help but laugh. This is just another "classic Marist" moment that has become the norm over the last 14 years. I've met Coach Dunne and by all accounts he is a very nice person but he is a painfully average basketball coach, and no one can argue that because in his 15 years as a head coach the facts speak for themselves. It really makes me sad how little the administration cares about excelling in basketball (and football but I won't get into that). It's ok to want to be elite academically and athletically as there's tons of schools who are able to achieve both however Marist just isn't one of them who has figured it out. Nothing against Dunne, but the fact that Tim Murray is still the AD boggles my mind and when he gave out that contract extension it just showed me that Murray isn't going anywhere which is really really disappointing.
So here we are again basically starting from scratch with a roster and I would love nothing more than for Coach Dunne and his staff to go out and crush the transfer market but my faith is limited.
Freshmen Tyler McCool- 6’8”
Sophomores Jao Ituka- 6’ 1” Noah Harris- 6’1” Rollin Belton- 6’8”
Juniors Javon Cooley- 6’5”
Seniors Victor Enoh- 6’8” Samkelo Cele- 6’5” Tyler Saint Furcy- 6’4”

It comes down to there isn’t a coach out there who would be successful at Marist - even our glory days with Margarity was the epitome of mediocrity

I've known several assistant coaches from previous coaching regimes over the past 14 years and the common denominator they all point to is Tim Murray's way of running things will never work and the restrictions he has had implemented in previous years in addition to the underwhelming resources/support just will never work, doesn't matter who's there.

Between portal, juco and high school we'll sign 4-5 more guys and the hit rate on those dudes will determine next year's record.

Yeah entirely comes down to the portal. Wright and Jones leaving means equal or better replacements have to come in.
Otherwise though I like Ituka and Cele, both can have their minutes go from the low 20s to 30.
I think Harris can see his role increase as well, but still need another ball handler to come in for depth though.
Cooley put up similar numbers to Bell this year, if he shoots like he did as a freshman and improve his perimeter defending it might even be an upgrade.

Hope Ituka is staying because he wants to be that legend, top 5 player ever at school. But if he waits to portal out later, then that is harmful to college. Hopefully he sees the great possibilities he has here.

Well, if we have a few D1 guys who are D2 quality, might as well go after a D2 guy who may be D1 quality
