Cut and pasted from President Murray's Spring '10 update letter. The Buildings and Grounds Committee is reviewing options for expanding and enhancing space at the McCann Center. The key objectives of the project would be to create new locker and office areas for the men’s and women’s basketball programs, expand public restrooms, and create new seating in the basketball area. Maintaining a minimum of 3,000 seats for our basketball games is a priority for this project, and we will contact several seating firms to propose bleacher options for our review. Designs and budgets for the proposed project are being developed and reviewed with a goal of bringing a recommendation to the Board of Trustees in February. www.marist.edu/alumni/pdfs/WelcomeBackJan2010.pdfI'd like to see something a bit more ambitious. ie: a new building.

Has anything been decided on this??? If they spruce the place up, they can really start getting recruits in there.

Parking garage needed. Even here just regular day parking for staff/students is atrocious. Overheard that Marist staff doesn't even like leaving for lunch because there is no parking available when they come back. Game situations when Marist is good is pathetic. Making us park in Newark and then taking a bus to McCann is unacceptable.

Especially when the bus seems to come once every 20 minutes and gets packed quick. Last time I was on it, the bus was packed, even the standing room only section. Then they take you around the back of campus right near the edge of a big cliff. It was actually a bit scary as the bus SLOWLY navigated that section. FIX THE DAMN PARKING SITUATION MARIST.

I would be in favor of turning McCann Baseball Field into a parking lot and finding an alternate venue for the baseball team - Dutchess Stadium? Vassar's field? The current Marist baseball facility is a sub-junior high school quality dump anyway.

That place would be exactly what they need. Nobody in the MAAC would have an edge. Just do it. No mediocre makeovers..

The people who own the former Hudson River Psychiatric Center property are surprised that no one from Marist has approached them about purchasing a chunk of property in the south west corner of the site. It would be ideal for a new facility and parking. Know anyone who wants to endow $10 million to Marist for a new athletic center???

I faxed them over a check not sure what happened - and marist is silly not grab some of that property even if just to hold on to for later

The problem is that they can't tear down the current "arena" and build a new one on that same desirable spot. I've heard that Tim Murray has his dream plans for a new and improved McCann Center, to be built on the practice field behind the current one.
Personally, I'd love to see something like what Quinnipiac did, though on campus and not in town. They built a dual arena, with one side for basketball and the other for ice hockey. If not for the McCann extension, that whole area would've been perfect for two small arenas plus parking.
