The mess just gets bigger now for every school that has to hire a new coach, since National Signing Day keeps getting closer and closer. Tennessee's 23-man class was ranked No. 6 in the country, but two players (four-star DT Brandon Willis of South Carolina and four-star LB Michael Taylor) have already decommitted with more expected to follow, and that ranking should drop by signing day.
Multiple sources have told Dave Hooker of the Knoxville News-Sentinel that former Tennessee recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron, who was already at work in USC's football offices last night, has called several of the Vols' early enrollees and told them not to attend the first day of class today. This should allow them to transfer to USC without having to sit out a year.
Several other recruits didn't need Orgeron to tell them to consider their options. Lane Kiffin turned the recruiting process into a spectacle (recall the story of him showing up at one high school in a helicopter), and it will be hard to get a new coach in place with that kind of charisma.
JC Shurburtt of ESPN.com says that recently committed four-star S Ahmad Dixon -- the Vols' highest-ranked recruit -- had been scheduled to visit USC this weekend, and that visit may be back on. Shurburtt would not be surprised to see Dixon eventually sign with the Trojans.
UPDATE: QB Tyler Bray wasn't one of the recruits that Orgeron called, because he had already practiced with the team leading up to its bowl game and thus would probably have to sit out if he transferred.(Although his father says otherwise.) Moreover, Bray's entire family moved from Kingsburg, Calif., to Fullerton, Tenn., to support Tyler. So UT's QB of the future is staying in Knoxville.
