I hear ya Ken. I watched last night's game. Those kids fought their hearts out. All of the freshman show promise. Price is going to be really good. Good things are on the way. Let's stay positive and support Chuck and the boys. They just need size. Hopefully, Drummond, Ming, and Watson will bring that next year. Bauer played a nice game last night. Kudos to him.
Happy New Year!

I have been a Red Fox Club member for 20 years and will continue to be one as long as I live here. I've seen the ups and downs of Marist men's BB. I want the team to be as successful as anyone on this board, but, admit that I'm not as bullish as some on this board regarding the long-term collective talent level of this squad. Time will tell.
All I'm trying to do is be objective and keep Martin accountable too. Can't one be supportive of the team and keep the Coach accountable at the same time? If the posters here require blind allegiance to the Coach and censor those that disagree ("ignore him"), what are you afraid of?
Even is one accepts all the arguments posted here about the reasons for the results so far this season, we are still winless at this point.
Level with me, don't you have some doubts about Martin?

Foxman, almost every post you have made has either been downright trashing Martin or insinuating it. Look at it the opposite way. Are you giving him a fair chance looking at what he had to do taking over? He basically was starting his program from scratch. He isn't even a year and a half into his tenure. You can't honestly say you are giving him a fair shot. The rest of us said we expect significant improvement by next year. This year is all about seeing progress on the court. Again, look at how young and inexperienced this squad is.

Everyone has their own opinions of how much and how soon they think this team can improve. I'm giving Martin and the team more time to develop before I make a more definitive opinion on what this collection of players will become. I do think he has some very good talent in here with Price and Rusin and a couple guys who COULD be very good in Prescott and Johnson. Not having another big man or two is devastating. That said I'm not willing to give Martin an auto-pass for the entire year. I'm going to need to see SOME W's at some point and a number of competitive losses. If Marist goes on to finish the rest of this year say, 2-17 with 12 more blowout losses than I will be very down on his potential to improve this group regardless of his front court personnel. I look forward to seeing this debate continued in a constructive respectful way as the season progresses by all posters including foxman. Happy New Year all!

Good post Red Fox 5. That's exactly the point. They have 4 very good freshman in Price, Johnson, Rusin, and Prescott. Those are Chuck's guys. They are all good. Case closed. I saw Jordan and Whittington as freshman. They looked like amateurs until their second year. They turned out ok. These 4 are better than anybody Brady or Magarity ever brought in. The difference is that their guysweren't asked to contribute like these 4 were. Honestly, Johnson has been pretty dam impressive. My only problem with him has been FT's. Think about it?? When's the last time you could get 15 pts out of a freshman who is playing out of position most of the time? I'll say it. Anybody caling for Chuck's head is a moron. And Yes. If Drummond was playing, they'd win 7+ MAAC games. I have your back Yankee.. :-) Next year we will prosper. By the end of this year, we'll steal a few. I'm sure Chuck redshirted Watson knowing he'd be loaded for bear next year. That would benefit Menelik as well. If they had Drummond, they'd be dangerous. Yes Redfox, he would make that much of a difference. Kaba at a normal 2 would be a star. Johnson will be a star in the MAAC. Price will be first team by his junior year. You're expecting these guys to be stars immediately. I love Prescott. He'll find his groove.

P.S.
Those digs were meant for Foxman and not Redfox. Chuck will do just fine Foxman. Give the the guy a chance. He represents the school well also...

GGaff got me all pumped about the teams potential again:). Nice post G. Marist needs this win tonight. Hopefully this snow doesn't persist all night, that would keep the crowd down. I expect around 24-2500 with the bring a kid night promotion. Didn't use to need the promotions to get that number:(. Marist wins by 4 tonight.

I don't know Foxman and am not trying to defend him on his views on Martin but........ go back and read the thread on the Binghamton game from just 10 days ago and some of the comments of you all directed at Martin on his teaching, substitution patterns, recruiting, etc. Shouldn't attack someone for saying the equivalent.

I've been pretty transparent that I'm not happy with the organizational approach they've taken to this year. And yes, you are correct, others have questioned Martins effectiveness in different ways also. The difference is nobody else has called for Martin's job. Foxman thinks Martin is a hopeless case so firing him would be the only way Marist can stop the slide. Others aren't ready or willing to jump on that ship quite yet.

You're correct that Foxman has suggested that Martin should be fired while no one else that I recall having done so. That being the case, the level of dissatisfaction is simply one of degrees.

That being the case, the level of dissatisfaction is simply one of degrees. Foxman is clearly the outlier regarding how Marist should hold Martin accountable for his performance to date. No coach in all of College Basketball would ever be held to the standard of "accountability" that Foxman is imposing in terms of time on the job and player development/results. I just don't think the posters (mostly outsiders) are going judge Martin here until the year is over.

Everyone is entitled to make mistakes. Because last year Martin was not able to have a full season to recruit I consider this year the first year one can use to measure Coach Martin. Being a rookie coach with basically all new guys he gets a pass from me this year. I am not at all happy the way he messed up the Drummond situation. But as far as I'm concerned that is the only strike against him. I think his substituting has been fine. That I have no problem with. Selection of players, to start, finish or get the most minutes does not bother me either. He has to play Korey like it or not. He had to start the season with Goodwin at point like it or not.
I have suggested we stay the course and I believe the majority on this board agree with me.
I did ask the question of those who want Martin fired now, what about the ramifications? Have those who want Martin gone given any thought to how long it would take to get respectable? How many more years like last year and this year would we have to endure? In other words when you call for the coaches head you have to think what happens next. Once again we have a rookie coach and a bunch of rookies we are asking to be major contributors.
The Jets have a rookie coach and a rookie QB and most Jet fans have had to endure severe growing pains this year. Fans of Marist mens hoops are enduring the same growing pains.
Lets go Foxes. Beat Manhattan

Foxman just wants them to win like we all do.. Patience will be the virtue here. The kids are playing their butts off. They just need more size. That comes next year. Ming should want to be here. He'll be part of a kiddie corps that wins a championship or two. I really like the fact that all of our freshman are capable of scoring 15 as freshman. That's not bad. I agree with Yankee. The lack of a post presence severely hurts Kaba and Prescott. That will be there next year. Let's beat Manhattan and get the positive vibes going.

Jets are going to the playoffs, though (please take that in jest).
I'm seriously concerned about having a big man next year. The explanation on Watson was vague and very non-specific, to say the least. Ming not signing during the early signing period coupled with the team's present record makes me wonder if he will sign. If Drummond wasn't motivated enough to keep his grades up when he was going to start playing after sitting out a year, is he going to do so for another semester plus? For anyone at the game tonight, I'd be curious to know if he is on the bench.
