Whittington has left Marist to become an assistant at Oregon. Think Flores takes this spot with one of the incumbents promoted to lead assistant?

I think a different former Marist PG will be in the running for the vacant assistant position...

Didn't she want to go someplace warm? Seriously, sad to see her go. She did a great job closing the deal on last year's class. A bit surprised she didn't wait until she landed head coaching job but a PAC 10 assistant's job is none too shabby a launching pad. Good luck to her.
I think Giorgis goes for someone with a keen eye for talent and a proven closer on the recruiting trail. The class of 2010 is gonna be huge for the program now that its gone from 2 to 4 open 'ships, including one currently occupied by the programs all-time player. Don't know if Flores fits that bill for that job, yet.

Agree completely Oldfox. Can't underestimate impact Keila had on recruitment effort. I think hiring an assistant with extensive recruitment experience and connections compliments Giorgis. Have to also factor in that Coach Gebbia could be also be leaving soon, so may be wise to have a top assistant with impressive resume to boot. Given the success the program has enjoyed, attracting a high caliber candidate should be easier then in the past.
All the best Coach! Sorry to see you leave!

Who was the recruiting coordinator before Whittington got here? Kresge seems to have a nice position in the MAAC offices with potential for job advancement. She needs to stay there so when Ensor retires, they have their replacement for him. . I believe Flores coached somewhere this year, not a big job, but some experience.

Don't know if she was the "recruiting coordinator" at Marist but Coach Kiela followed Jada Pierce. I believe Coach Pierce left for a job at UMass. goredfoxes.cstv.com/sports/w-baskbl/mtt/pierce_jada00.htmlFlores is an assistant coach at a DIII school in New Hampshire, I believe. Giorgis hired KW after the Penn St. coaching staff was disbanded and she was already an established top notch recruiter. If you were a fan of hers, you probably feel the timing was perfect for Marist. I think this is a huge hire for all the reason's folks have pointed out.

Ok, maybe I am being naive here. But why not bump up Gebbia to the recruiting coordinator, which it seems she is anyway from the profile, give Leger more responsibilities as Giorgis has spoken extremely highly of her, and put in Flores or Kresge as the third assistant to groom? goredfoxes.cstv.com/sports/w-baskbl/mtt/gebbia_megan00.html

Maybe they will Yankee. Personally I would want to take someone in from the outside in that spot, a climber who wants to move on after making a splash. Coach Ledger has never coached anywhere else and Coach Meg has been there as long as the head man.

Two points:
1. Being a recruiting coordinator takes a specialized set of skills and experience. Moreover, putting Coach Meg in there would necessarily take time from her other responsibilities to Giorgis.
2. Keila's coaching responsibilities was with the post players, which she also had at Penn St. and now at Oregon. Just like pitching coaches, quarterback coaches, etc., most coaches have a specialty. Flores and/or Kresge could not step into that role.
Need to bring someone in from outside, in my view.
