I found this interesting. Think about it. 2018.. LA Tech He must have talent
Ruston High basketball Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. Coach Konkol offered Rollin Belton from Ruston High school about 2 weeks ago. He is a sophomore about 6'7. He's got some development still left but is considered one of the top prospects in Louisiana for his class. We start competition this Saturday, October 27 against Rayville at 10 am at the Ruston High gym. It's a little scrimmage tournament with several area high schools. I'll post a Ruston schedule when I figure out how a little later for those who might want to try to catch a game and watch this prospect and possible future propects like his fellow sophomore whose a skinny shooter.

I saw a clip where he buried a three. Didn't look awkward.. Maybe a redshirt year would be the answer.. Definitely has potential. Blocks shots and rebounds.
Has scored 23 in a game.

If Jones and Enoh return then I think a red shirt might not be a bad idea, but if Jones decides to not use his free year then I think you need to dress Belton

The posts I've seen about Belton show me we have a very low bar for our recruits, "decent size", "serviceable", "pretty good athleticism" ,"runs fast", over the last 40+ years we've had a total of 2 post players, A. Kemp and R. Stilphen, make any all M.A.A.C. team and they were both 3rd team, that's pathetic.

He's had some big games. Not sure what else you want the posts to say.
They won't lower the standards, so the pool is shallow. The other MAAC schools scoop up the better players with lower grades.
I saw another quote from Carm M. of Siena. Siena MBB is a special program. All the support is there to win. Granted, they don't care about the other programs.
Unless we change, it will be hard to beat them. We'll need luck. They take it a lot more seriously and do whatever it takes.

So you want stupid as shit kids in college as long as they can play basketball? I have said this so many times but I guess we just aren't lowering our standards enough? We have not lost a recruit because admissions has not let them in.

So we let kid into college with a 1.7 gpa because they are awesome at basketball and then make them take intro to basketball coaching to keep them in school? Kids don't come here because we suck

Wth are you talking about man. Always so damn angry. Take it easy. Dunne knows what he's doing. So we let kid into college with a 1.7 gpa because they are awesome at basketball and then make them take intro to basketball coaching to keep them in school? Kids don't come here because we suck

Peta - that wasn't about Dunne - that was about people continuing to think that we need to lower our standards even more than they already are to succeed in recruiting. So go back under your rock.

No. I'm not saying that. You said you don't like projects. There are only so many good big men out there. There a lot more guards in the pool than big men. That's all I'm saying. You didn't like the recruiting(project) and I'm telling you it's not that easy. The other schools get them and it gives them an edge. There's not much room for error with high academic schools.
I think they have to go the transfer route with big men. Our guards are very good. We're set there with Harris coming in.

ggaff - let me put it this way instead - we are not losing any recruits due to academics (admissions has not told the basketball team that they can't recruit someone because of academics - they only exception to that, that I am aware of was a few years back a recruits HS was put on some list that has to do with fraudulent grades)
So take the idea that we are not getting kids because of high academic standards out of equation and now try to figure out why we can't land a solid recruit? Why we get so excited about a guy with no other offers? I agree transfer might be the best avenue.

I am excited about his potential. I agree with your notion that they need to line up guys that can definitely contribute. If you recruit 3 bigs, 2 have to be "must" contributors. I don't mind one being a "diamond in the rough". If you know the worst case scenario is that he rebounds and block shots, that's a good thing. I sort of like the Gettings kid. They need a big that can face the basket a little. II don't buy into the losing record thing. If kids have brains, they should know who Dunne is. They know he's built a pretty good backcourt for the next 3-4 yrs. Be the the guy that completes the deal at a great school.
Is Gettings still in play?
I think Marist is underachieving on the offensive end. I think they waste one of Bell's strengths, getting out in transition. I don't like using 25 on the clock every possession. They've got guys that can run. Use it. But with the bigs, nobody steps out and hits a 10 footer.
When I throw out theories, it's because I'm at a loss for why bigs don't sign. The past is the past. New coach, new guards. What does losing under Mike Maker have to do with playing for John Dunne? As Peta said, I trust Dunne. He says they're headed in the right direction. This FF series is big. I want to see them look to score. If they grind it out, they're asking for trouble. I want a sweep..
