As long as we are doing some reminiscing from old threads I've heard from successful D 3 coaches that D 1 basketball programs that need a head coach are very hesitant to hire direct from the D 3 level anymore because of the Maker debacle .Also anyone heard where he landed ? He should be out of his Marist contract finally ..

From Wikepedia - "On June 17, 2014, Maker was named the 11th head coach in Marist basketball history, replacing Jeff Bower, who left to become the general manager of the NBA's Detroit Pistons. After a 28-97 record over four seasons, Maker was fired from Marist. Maker was named an assistant coach at St. Thomas on April 1, 2021 as the school transitions to Division I status for the 2021–22 season.[3]" - although i also see him listed on the Creighton staff ?

Interesting article. On one hand he takes responsibility for failing, on the other hand he says it wasn’t a good fit here, which feels like it’s a cop out. I am sure he’s probably a nice guy but I can’t get over the half ass job he did in recruiting guys overseas who had no business playing D1 hoops.

I am sure he’s probably a nice guy but I can’t get over the half ass job he did in recruiting guys overseas who had no business playing D1 hoops. One of the best days in this schools basketball history was the day he was relieved of his duties. He could be a great guy, who knows. But we know he was a horrific D1 basketball coach. I also believe he made a snarky comment upon leaving about no need to get a job, they got to pay me 3 more years. Dont do a bad job and act like that. Own up and leave quietly.

I love whenever there's an update to this thread, I'm like "damn, did we fire him again?" Did Tim call Mike's cell phone just to say 'hey remember when I fired you, that was awesome, you're re-hired and fired again!' and then Tim cackles to himself for 5 minutes

This SNL bit is gonna be too dated for most, but what the heck. It works for me on this topic.
