If he loses the first few yrs, the natives will get restless quick. I like the route TM went.

I was tough on TM and Yankee was right. I like the way we are balanced. And I'm really liking Yellen's personality and approach. Steady as she goes and JD will win.. Once he wins, they'll keep winning.

I was tough on TM and rightfully so. That being said I like this hire and yes I think Yellen was the one who made this happen. Better days are ahead for MBB under Yellen. TM, I think, is along for the ride

I like the Dunne hire a lot more as a fit than Beilein. Beilein is young and while I think he will (unfortunately) be very good at Siena and bring them back to the Fran McCaffrey days, I think Dunne is a much better fit for what this program needs. I think Dunne is established enough and has the clout to go head on and tell Tim Murray to get out of the way and go to Yellen's office when he needs to get a recruit in.

I hope Dunne works out for you but why so much optimism for a guy who is under .500 for his career as a D1 HC?

Dunne has done a lot in the MAAC with a program that has a lot less. He got a MAAC champ in his first couple years, and were 30 years and counting waiting for one. One thing I am really impressed with is they way his teams has played in March recently. The past 2 years, they have competed with Iona in the semis, the eventual champions both times.

I still can't figure out why kids would ever choose Siena over Marist.. Because of the arena?? That's crazy..
He might be successful if Siena lowers their standards. Pretty sure they do already. Definitely not recruiting the same students

I've got to believe that Siena can do better than beeline, especially in the character department. Unless B,S, & K unearths something more serious than has been reported already Siena will probably get away with nothing more than a slap on the wrist. It's been reported they are embarking on a "national search" which should get them a nice line up of candidates to look at including those with D1 experience. JD's division 1 experience is a huge plus for me for Marist at this time.

Definitely not recruiting the same students Largest fanbase in the MAAC. Huge crowds when they are good. Long basketball tradition. Willingness to spend like a drunken sailor on the MBB program. Willingness to take kids for MBB that wouldn't sniff admission under any other circumstances. I'm pleased to read that Siena is going to do a "national search". FWIW, and it might not mean anything, hiring beeline will chill whatever relationship there is between Marist and St. Peter's and Siena. It surely seems that he was tipped on what was going down at Siena behind the scenes while he was involved with Bryant and Marist.

They do have a large fan base. But as I tell my Siena buddy, you should draw 7,000. Look at all the people in the Cap District. They should draw 10. As a player, I'd rather play in McCann in front of 3,500 than the TU in front of 7,000 with the curtains up. We just need to get 3,000 this yr. That's what AD needs to get going. They need a marketing campaign for this year. He made a great hire. Get the kids and the locals back. Have a promo at 5-7 games.
Marist can't let them control things.
Siena does have a fun history. I loved them as a kid. My father brought me to games at Gibbons Hall when they were D-3. My brother and I played a full court one on one game at halftime one game. Fred Shear.. Rod Brooks. Those guys could play..

hoopsguy123,
They will be very lucky if he has success like Fran. Fran had a great resume when he got there. One great recruiting class.
Marist needs to give Dunne all the resources he needs. They can get the tradition that they were building in the 80's and mid 2000s back. But they have to be all in.. I really like Yellen's passion. While I think D. Murray could be one of the greatest presidents ever, he didn't seem (outwardly) to have the same passion that I saw out of Yellen. I think we were all waiting to see what he thought. He cares. TM cares. I hope they stay committed. It will be a lot of fun.
P.S.
Baseball stole the 2nd game of a DH yesterday. 6-3 in the conference. Get hot and live up to the preseason ranking!!1 That never hurts recruiting either. Know off a heavyweight in an ESPN game.

We are seeing a lot of same posts and discussions in 2 threads ... I think Siena search is better suited for the MAAC basketball thread
