And not one person on this board expected them to maintain what they had last year with the losses they have. ESPECIALLY when one of the players was the starting QB. I think we need to remind ourselves of the players they lost last year. We can't act like Marist has been a dominant power in there conference and should just be able to reload no matter who they lose. This is going to be a down year, but I still think they will be quite competitive in the conference. Noone thought they would win it or finish even top 2 I would think.

The dense is solid but can't be on the field 2/3's of the game. Agreed. CAN WE PLEASE FIND A KICKING GAME!!!! Take away the 14 pts with less than 2 min to go in the half (one due to INT) and it's a 9 -0 game. Add a freakin' FG its 6 -3 at half. A whole different ballgame.

Understand SHU and Bucknell have been picked to win their respective league titles, so we're not playing cupcakes . . . But my frustration is why can't Marist be a dominant power in their conference? Why can't the program build on it's success. Case in point, the current QB had only 2 pass attempts last year. Why??? Particularly when you had 4 blowout wins last year (Valpo 37-0; Davidson 42-14; Stetson 27-0; Mercer 33-7). One only needs to look across the hallway at how Giorgis operates to see the formula.

That is a fair argument maristdb, why he didn't play the QB's more in blowouts last year for experience. I have admitted I have not been a big follower of the football program, but am starting this year, including going to the next home game. Was the current starting QB on the roster last year? If so, yes, should have given him reps. If he is a freshman, well couldn't do that. Marist has only been in this conference for a few years. They have to travel all across the country to play in games. The stadium JUST got improved a couple years ago. There was no sustained ability for success before, but now things are falling in place for that to happen, the conference affiliation not being great, but about the best we can hope for now. Now that we have the better facilities, I can see a better chance for sustained success over the next recruiting classes. I don't see how anyone could have expected Marist to have done so this year losing a star QB and many other pieces with their past results and stadium situation before that season. Can't lose every game this year, but 4-5 wins in conference along with last years success and the current stadium situation should allow them to keep getting good recruits. Are we not happy with this years crop of recruits? That would be a concern coming off last years success. Do we like our current recruits? Someone who is knowledgable on there abilities could probably help here, as I honestly have little idea.

Hopefully, it's a good game (I think so, as Marist and G'town have played some very competitive games) and you return again and again and again. As a long time FB follower, I love the program and know that some of our problems are structural ($$ spent on program v. other FCS school), but some are self-inflicted. The current QB was on the roster last year hence he should have played more on the blowout games. Additionally, our kicking game (FG and Extra Pts) have always been an issue. So recruit a really good kicker. NOTE - I think they might have as they have a FR from St. John's DC who was a pretty good one. I believe the recruiting classes are getting better and better, but we'll see. Ultimately, I won't be happy with another 4-7 or 3-8 season.

Maybe the Bison will surprise the rest of the PL and that was your plan all a long , but add your injured players back and you're playing Lehigh for the PL title IMHO. RJ Nitti is the real deal.

Hope you're right - and my expectations are higher than 4th - but I certainly wouldn't count Fordham out. Despite their loss to Villanova, they likely have the most talent in the league if Nebrich is healthy. Five years of scholarships vs two years for the rest of the league. Bucknell plays Sacred Heart in two weeks. That will be a good game to start judging whether Bucknell can challenge for a PL title.

Very true. SHU is basically the same team as last year - one that really pushed Fordham in the playoffs.
But isn't Fordham restricted from the PL title (due to scholarships) or is that no longer the case?

But isn't Fordham restricted from the PL title (due to scholarships) or is that no longer the case? That is no longer the case, starting with this season. Fordham has a big advantage at the moment, having had five scholarship classes as compared to two for the other PL schools. Also it has a somewhat lower academic index for recruits than all of the other PL schools, plus its recent success should give them an edge in recruiting over the next few years. Thus they should be hard to beat over that time period.

bison, Assuming Marist is able to make the financial commitment.... Is Marist a name still being mentioned on the Patriot League chat boards as a new entry/replacement school?

I think Marist would be a great fit for the PL in all athletics except FB. As I see it the PL is a FB centric conference, as such probably not the right fit.

The only chance of Marist ever being in the PL discussion would be a larger financial commitment to football. I think adding Boston U was a huge mistake but it's done and the league now has 10 - which is all it wants. However it will have to add someone for football at some point.

I agree. I also agree with the BU statement.
A lot of people on this board believe PL inclusion would put Marist on the fast track to a higher academic stature level.
I remember someone telling me AU experienced something along that line.
What say you Bison?
